The Police State Mindset in Our Public Schools

August 13, 2013

Once upon a time in America, parents breathed a sigh of relief when their kids went back to school after a summer’s hiatus, content in the knowledge that for a good portion of the day their kids would be gainfully occupied, out of harm’s way and out of trouble. Those were the good old days, before school shootings became a part of our national lexicon and schools, aiming for greater security, transformed themselves into quasi-prisons, complete with surveillance cameras, metal detectors, police patrols, zero tolerance policies, lock downs, drug sniffing dogs and strip searches.
Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, instead of making the schools safer, we simply managed to make them more authoritarian. It used to be that if you talked back to a teacher, or played a prank on a classmate, or just failed to do your homework, you might find yourself in detention or doing an extra writing assignment after school. Nowadays, students are not only punished for transgressions more minor than those—such as playing cops and robbers on the playground, bringing LEGOs to school, or having a food fight—but they are punished with suspension, expulsion, and even arrest.

  1. I generally concur with the article....certainly there is a problem with the way things are being handled and a lot of abuse coming from incidents of little or no significance. Arresting kids over trivialities is absurd.

That may come from another teaching that has been going on. There are two big issues I have seen happening that I believe are by design and with intent.

The first is that they are teaching our kids they cannot defend themselves or retaliate if attacked. They are to go to the authorities. They are teaching them to just "take it" and depend on someone else to make it right. If they retaliate or defend themselves they are punished for it....severely.

That is absurd. Every man has a perfect right to defend himself and indeed, if my son had ever failed to defend himself he would have gotten more trouble when he got home. It is called self-reliance and self-preservation. But, they do NOT want our kids to be self-reliant. They want them to be obedient dependents upon the state.

The next problem is that they teach them in groups and form "group projects" of make homework assignments which absolutely "require" parental assistance; and/or it is a group assignment again. Once more the object is to teach them they cannot function or achieve something without assistance.

This prevents independent work and independent thought. No more self-reliance or independence. They want, and they are building, good little state dependent slaves incapable of self-reliance, independent thought, self-sufficiency, or sense of self. They are stomping the "individual" right out of them along with their individual rights and freedoms. Obedience to authority and dependence are the objectives.

That is merely another reason for dumbing them down. The ignorant are less capable of self-reliance and more dependent.

Get them out of these indoctrination centers or loss them.

  2. I couldn't agree more. Which is why we homeschooled our 8 children through the 8th grade. They then went on to get either a GED or high school equivalency diploma.
I don't know any home schooled kids who have any problem competing with the products of the public brain dirty system.
