My Father's Question

By Anna Von Reitz

I never realized it was any Big Deal or anything so unusual at the time, but in retrospect it is painfully clear that my Father's daily question to me was incredibly important and a sign of the blessing that has been with me all my life.

Every morning when I woke up, I would scamper out of bed and go looking for my Father.  On weekdays, this would be very early, somewhere around five o'clock in the morning, as he left home for work each day by six.

I would find him in the kitchen most days, savoring his last drops of coffee and reading.  My Mother, loyal to the core, would have been up since four cooking his breakfast (and now, mine) and packing his lunch for another day.

Upon seeing me, he would always immediately set his paperwork and coffee aside and open up his arms to me for a big, happy hug.  Then, he would say, "And what can I do for you today?"

It was so simple.  A happy hug, a look on his face that said, "You are my treasure!" and the question --- "What can I do for you today?"

Our Father in Heaven has that same attitude and question.  It's never about Him. It's always about us.  And the hug and the smile are written upon the stars of the galaxies and the rush of the winds and tides.

"So, my child, what can I do for you today?"

Most of the time, I just snuggled deeper into his arms and rested my head on his shoulder and was completely happy, needing nothing more.  The silence spoke for me.

Other times, I would have something on my mind and I would ask for something or would ask for him to do something for me.  I always understood that if what I asked for was good and it was reasonably within his power to give, I would get it. No questions asked.

I was spoiled rotten.  And every day, I got another chance to answer his question.

Almost unconsciously, I have carried forward this same tradition with my own children.

As a parent, it's not about me --- it's about them.  How can I best serve them, their needs, their interests, their life going forward?  What is on their mind and in their heart?  What are their dreams?

You only find out by asking in an atmosphere of love and acceptance, by creating a little Sacred Space, where they are safe and comfortable telling you the truth every single day.

Over time, asking and answering this simple question creates a bond that time and even death cannot erase.  I am still very close to my Father, and not just because I carry his DNA, but because his mind and spirit and attitude took root in me, too.  His question has become my question.

What can I do for you today?  How can I make your life better?

As I have gotten older I have come to realize that many people spend their lives and are never asked that question by anyone who cares.  This leaves a void and an emptiness in their lives, as if they are unconsciously waiting and listening  --- and the question never comes.

I have also come to realize that most men are left ill-prepared for the stress and strain of Fatherhood, much less prepared to embrace its joys.   Fathers in the current world have largely been reduced to being bread-winners, and judged according to how much money they drag through the door --- but being a Father is much more than that.

Fatherhood is a mirror of our relationship with our Creator, and ideally, a means for us to understand our relationship with our Divine Father.  When this mirror is cracked or dimmed or dirtied, it is difficult for children to find the True God within themselves.

So, once again, I must admit that I was well and truly and fabulously blessed.

My earthly Father was all that a child could ask for or need. He offered me a clear and steady insight into what it means to have a "Father in Heaven", and though it was his voice asking me The Question every morning of my life, I have come to know that Our Father in Heaven asks each one of us that same question every day:

"Beloved Child, what can I do for you today?"

  1. Well Anna, once again you show you do not know The Father. The fact of the matter is He never asks us ''what can He doe for us''. That is nowhere in the Word of God. The fact of the matter is we are told that we are to be Servants OF God. We are the Servants and he is the Master that we Serve and do his bidding. He does not exist to do our bidding, nor is he our Butler, or any kiosk in some shopping mall to just walk up to and make demands.
In further fact there are qualifications to first be met in order to receive anything from God; there may be exceptions but it is still not the ''rule of thumb'.
However, He blesses His true Children, saying ''IF you abide in Me, and My Word abides IN you, THEN ask what YOU will''. See that? Theres a qualification there, that people need to first meet.
Further, he says ''He is a Rewarder of them that Diligently seek Him''. See that?

So Anna, I don't know what kind of God you have in your own mind, but it aint how The Father God operates.

    4. Unknown, what you posted here is pure bullshit that you have heard thru mushy xtians or by the grape vine. But it is NOT what God is at all. YOU need to go read a real bible and get the real Truth. Most of mankind is separated from God by their sinful ways......and that includes spewing sugar coated bullshit as you have done here. Its call LYING.

    5. Michael, you have taken my words and quotes and turned them into a nightmare of your own choosing. God is about moral behavior, doing what is Right, etc. because it makes for a civilized and safe society. Do you not realize that this kind of godly behavior is lacking, that is the cause of all our societal ills today?

Michael, are you saying you want to 'live like hell, and end up in heaven just the same'? What is it that you find too demanding to be moral and civil and righteous? Do you really want some ''free for all, no holds barred'' society to live in? Do you really think that paints an enjoyable and peaceful existence?

    6. Who is better informed? Abby or just about anyone here but ucadia? Decisions, decisions 😂

[For those not aware, Abyss is known, on this site, for having nothing good or wholesome to say about virtually anything. This person makes it clear that she alone represents the truth and takes on all challengers. I feel it is particularly important for Abyss that others submit to her rule. OK, here goes!

Abyss is particularly biased when it comes to religion, or as she would say 'christianity'. Abyss says Christianity is a relationship whereas religion is not about a persons relationship to their god but rather to a set of do's and don'ts from which they can be easily measured. Abyss claims not to be religious, but from what I have verbally witnessed cannot be a Christian either. In fact I firmly believe Abyss is not one however, or even close to being one, since real Christians do not go around belittling others. I find it interesting that Abyss believes in the devil and therefore I presume, santa claus. Apparently Abyss also believes in something called a holy spirit, I guess in contra-distinction to an evil or malicious spirit. Abyss knows all the rules of who will and who will not go to heaven when they die, and when on that subject Abyss will blather you with what they're kind says the fairy tale bible book has to say about who will be saved, and who will not be saved. To hear her spirit through her writing one would think they had better get in good standing with Abby now, in this life, because she can tell you more about god than any writing in existence. This rather large group of apostates also believe god killed jesus cause he could not control how angry he got when he considered how bad and sinful his creation the human race was at the time, and for the most part still is. His human creation was in fact so bad, god decided to have his one son arrested, tried, beaten and crucified. Voices in his (gods) head, must have kept repeating the phrase 'you must kill your only son and then I will be happy'. I guess we should be happy about this because through it all somehow we all got saved from something we did not know was threatening. Then it gets really interesting because TRUE FOLLOWERS of Jesus were commanded to eat his flesh and drink his blood. Ish, but then this was making god very happy to view the tremendous suffering he imposed on his son Jesus and all because he just got so mad at his creation. Well Abyss sure likes their own point of view, but goes one step further in that their kind believes some kind of a holy ghost inspired various men and women to write words that they received in secret from god and that those words could get you saved. Whatever that means.

Of particular interest to me is that their type also says that god does not have to follow his own rules, but rather that only his human creation has to do so. Abyss says in Galatians we learn of the fruit of the spirit; love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, meekness, temperance and faith, all of which, through what they call believers, are to be lived through their life, but god does not have to because he likes to kill a lot I guess. Kind of an unstable being if you ask me. But, Abyss says God does not have to ever display any of those things we just identified as 'fruit of the spirit'. Come to think of it, it is becoming clearer that the Abyss does not have to live a life in obedience to the rules of their unfair and madd god either. A god like that cannot be trusted. It appears that god and Abyss are the two beings that do not have to be like jesus, but that all others sure do, and that if all do not heed their instructions and insights, well they are just plain going to hell.

Abyss claims to have great insight into the last days of the earth. I personally think most of her kind just believe in scattered darkness before dusk and scattered light just prior to dawn. In either case the meaner you say something the more likely you will look like an expert.]

    7. One power, One presence. One wisdom.

Anyone that promotes division is suffering retrograde.

1 Corinthians 12 King James Version (KJV)

12 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.

3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

      8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

      9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

14 For the body is not one member, but many.

15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?

18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?

20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.

21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.

22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:

23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.

24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked.

25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.

26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?

30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

  3. Anna, how blessed you are, and a wonderful way to look at the Love of the Creator. Many Fathers don't realize how unconditionally they are loved and how many times their children would forgive and forget. I hope you have many more years with your father. Thank you for all your hard work.

  4. Anna, that probably should be item #1 on the agenda for parenting. While you were fortunate to have that opportunity every day, I really wish my father had asked me just once. Perhaps with 6 kids it was too tall a task or maybe it was that he never had it and so it never crossed his mind. It may have made a significant difference growing up.

  5. For all those who have fallen for the false 'love gospel' being preached by 'churches' so you will dump your money into their coffers in exchange for ''making you feel good' by lying to you - wake up. God hates all workers of iniquity. Psalms 5, go read it, you don't need to believe me. Look for yourself. I can back up every thing I say.
Psalms 7:11 for God is angry with the wicked every day.
He was angry with Aaron. Furious with Israel, so much so he wanted to kill them all because they just would not listen; they were willful, etc.

Point is, people are very misled to think that ''gawd jus luvs everbuddy''......as if he is stupid and hard up for attention and as if he needs anyone. Time to get over yourselves and 'go study to see IF you are approved......or not.
He says he loves them that (truly) love Him. And that IF ''you love me, then KEEP MY Commands'. Ahhhh, now that is what God says love is. Not the mushy words and then go do your own thing, see ya next sunday stuff.

Then he says ''why do you call me Lord, when you do not DO WHAT I SAY'?

Anna is totally wrong to say 'its all about us''. No, its all about Him, and in RETURN He does great things for us. I could write a book about all that He has done in our household, and I have never felt like a slave, never been treated like a slave by Him, we've had times we have asked for something little, and his answer came in ways that were above and beyond what we expected or asked. There have even been many times when blessing came out of the blue without even asking.
You get out of it dependent upon what you put into it; you put nothing into it, so how then does one expect to get anything out of it.?

His promises and his obligation is only to his own true children. Even with them, there are plenty of times he will let you wait long periods of time, for no particular reason, or because he is working on it, or because it is not the right time. So there is no 'snap your fingers and it falls in your lap' even for his own children.

  7. Even Jesus Christ,(Jehovah in the Old Testament) the "only Begotten Son" of His Heavenly Father (Elohim) lived his life on earth in such a way that pleasing His Father (in Heaven) was always His priority. He was fore-ordained to perform the acts he performed and to "walk the wine-press alone" in order to enter and to sit eventually on his throne at the right hand of God in the highest kingdom of Heaven. "My Fathers house is a house of many mansions".

He lived to glorify God His Father in Heaven. Because of confusion from misunderstanding the relationship of God the Father with God the Son, people still do not realize they are two individual beings. And that God the Holy Ghost is also a member of the Triune Godhead, but lacks a physical body in order to have the extraordinary power to visit us, and others throughout Gods Creation, to affirm truth and even to live in us when we strive to live strictly in accord with God's commandments.

God rules the Universe from a place of perfect order, which we cannot imagine because we live in a confused world full of confused people living in confused self serving associations. That is we live in a world of darkness, yet God lives in a kingdom within the universe of "perfect light". "In God there is no darkness". Stop for a few minutes and let that sink in to your spiritual eyes and heart.

I think Anna has the right idea gained from her own loving father who wanted to serve his children in love. The most clarifying revelation about God's purpose, our Heavenly Father, is revealed in His own words by His declaration "For this is my work and my glory - to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man". "For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son" to leave his exalted throne with God the Father to take on a tabernacle of flesh and to perform the acts that established His living church, provided His ordinances, and laid down his body to invoke the Mercy of God's perfect law because Christ a perfect being paid the price we cannot pay as imperfect beings for our sins So Christ suffered the acts of injustice by suffering for our sins in Gethsemane and by allowing himself to be crucified...to pay the price required by a perfect God, His Father. Christs life was laid down willingly as a propitiation for the sins of those who, by their faith, accept Gods plan to return to him, but only if by obedience to his commandments and by the way and name of Jesus Christ, the only name given under heaven for God's children to be able, conditionally, to return and dwell with God (Elohim, Jehovah, and the Holy Ghost) , forever.

Can the God of order, who holds the universe in his control, a God of love and perfection, be imagined to allow every kind of "person" to join Him? No, only the obedient who come to Him by way of the Redeemer, Jesus Christ, by following Christ's example as well as mortals can do. We must take upon us even the name of Jesus Christ, through holy ordinances, then receive the Holy Ghost, (listen to its influence to avoid evil continually and to continue to learn by this, the Light of Christ) then endure in faith and good works to the end of our mortality.

These are the candidates for "eternal life", that is living eternally with God. Everyone who lays aside their stubbornness, their unbelief, their proclivity to live a life of "eat, drink and be merry", and comes with a broken and contrite heart to God, may freely do so, and live.

    6. More careful, diligent search of scripture than casual perusal is required to, over time and with the assistance of the Holy Spirit, find the correct descriptions and attributes of our Heavenly Father.

The Father is whom Jesus prayed to in Gethsemane, on the cross, and referred to as His example - whom Jesus followed.

Whatsoever ye have seen me do, or say, is as though you are observing the Father do and say, for I have seen and heard the Father say these things to me. I have come to do the will of the (Heavenly) Father paraphrasing Jesus.

We do more damage ("damn" ourselves, as in delay our progress toward developing godliness, which for the stubborn and willful can continue as a damning of their soul for eternity, until repentance from wrongdoing and a humble acceptance of God's revelations is embraced whole heartedly) to our spiritual progress, than good, by refusing to learn the correct doctrines contained in scripture.

There is no scripture that is aimed at any other purpose than to bring to pass the progress of Man toward godliness, but sincere searching and laying aside prejudices against God's revelations is a starting point to our return. Public opinion or personal conjecture has no place when searching for the truth of God, His nature, personality, and purposes. WE must let go of "ourselves", and give full sway to God's holy influences, the Word being the chief "rod of Iron" to hold on to in our journey back home.

  8. so.....I used over ten years of my life reading and studying the book I was taught to be the absolute word of the god in heaven. Six times I read the bible, cover to cover, and daily prayed for understanding to enter my heart. The creator finely granted me the ability to see the truth! I never got to finish the seventh time reading and studying that great work. When the creator opened my eyes, so I could see the truth, the words of that book took on so many different meanings. The "God" that was spoken of, in the old testament, was telling the people to go to war, to kill all the people, and to smash the heads of the children with a stone.(genocide!}I'm not the smartest man on earth by far, but I do know when something is totally wrong! Right or wrong, I made the decision to look to nature to try to understand the creator. I found that I didn't need a book to tell me right from wrong. The spark of life I inherited from the creator is all I ever needed! Books are written by men! Nature was written by the creator! The handy-work of the creator is the absolute truth! I realize that I will ruffle a few feathers by posting this, but today, I felt led to post a truth that, if thought about ,can change the way someone sees this world. MY creator loves me( and everyone else on this earth).May the creator shelter each and every person that reads this post.
