This is one of the most, if not THE most important bill to be introduced this session.

Why?  Because we are always told that if we don't like what government is doing we can just "vote them out" in the next election.

How many of you believe that really works? Don't you feel mostly helpless after voting? The judges know that.

 

How many of us were NOT told that we have actually 3 votes in our system of government, and that We the People are on the TOP of the order of government under our creator?

 

What are those votes?

1. The Ballot box

2. The Grand Jury box

3. The Trial Jury box

Some might add a 4th:  The Cartridge Box

 

We must understand that to protect our rights and the rights of our fellow residents of this state and our counties we DO NOT need to elect any candidates, or pass any huge volume of laws, or spend a lot of money, or create any huge campaigns.

All we need to do is use what is already within our power. All we need to do is make sure that everyone understands the power we already have above. The jurors during prohibition understood this and refused to convict and the law was removed.

Some judges and some prosecutors are going to scream bloody murder over this bill. They don't want the juries to know their power because the jurors will then not be under the power of manipulation of government agents. Think about it. Judges get paid by who?

 

Knowledge is power, and knowing the truth is the only real knowledge.  Know the truth about your right to judge the law as well as the facts in any case you are called to be a juror on. Even without this new code you have the power to do all these things, but this will make it mandatory that judges and prosecutors make sure you actually understand your rights as jurors. This is the 4th check and balance in our system of government and it always was there, but we have been hoodwinked into believing we don't have it.

After shaking the shields over the opposition to SB-114, the Sheriffs First bill, coming right up is a very supportive bill which will hand the people's judicial power back over to the people themselves, where it should have remained all these years since the founding. This is the bill to liberate the 12-person Jury with the full power to judge the law as well as the facts in a courtroom trial, and this bill can deepen Montana's claim to autonomous sovereignty. Roger Roots, attorney, is a member in leadership at the Fully Informed Jury Association. Attorney Roots has written Montana's "Fully Informed Jury" bill, House Bill - 332.


A couple of lines from that bill -

(1) The legislature recognizes that the authority for trial jurors to judge the law as well as the facts provides protection for freedom and is consistent with the historic intent for the right to jury trial and that jurors may not be prevented from, punished for, or excluded for knowing about or exercising this historic prerogative.

(2) In all jury trials, the parties have the right to argue to the jurors that a law is unconstitutional, is unconstitutional as applied, or should be nullified for any other reason. Upon request by a party, the court in any jury trial shall inform the jurors that the jurors may judge both the facts and the law in the case. Denial of the instruction is reversible error.

(3) In all criminal trials, the court shall inform the jurors that the jurors may vote their conscience to acquit an accused in spite of technical guilt. Denial of the instruction is reversible error.

HB-332 will ensure those aspects of our self-governance are protected more than ever in Montana code.

NEW YEAR'S DAY
Why is this day so called?

Because the secular year begins with this day, as the Church year begins with the First Sunday in Advent.

What should we do on this day?

An offering of the new year should be made to God, asking His grace that we may spend the year in a holy manner, for the welfare of the soul.

Why do we wish each other a "happy new year"?

Because to do so is an act of Christian love; but this wish should come from the heart, and not merely from worldly politeness, otherwise we would be like the heathens (Mt. 5:47), and receive no other reward than they.

What feast of the Church is celebrated today?

The Feast of the Circumcision of our Lord, Who, for love of us, voluntarily subjected Himself to the painful law of the Old Covenant, that we might be freed from the same.

What was the Circumcision?

It was an external sign of the Old Law, by which the people of that day were numbered among the chosen people of God, as now they become, by baptism, members of the Church of Christ.

What is the signification of Circumcision in the moral or spiritual sense?

It signifies the mortification of the senses, of evil desires, and inclinations. This must be practiced by Christians now, since they have promised it in baptism which would be useless to them without the practice of mortification; just as little as the Jew by exterior Circumcision is a true Jew, just so little is the baptized a true Christian without a virtuous life. Beg of Christ, therefore, today, to give you the grace of the true Circumcision of heart.

PRAYER I thank Thee, O Lord Jesus, because Thou hast shed Thy blood for me in Circumcision, and beg Thee that by Thy precious blood I may receive the grace to circumcise my heart and all my senses, so that I may lead a life of mortification in this world, and attain eternal joys in the next. Amen.
COLLECT O God, Who, by the fruitful virginity of blessed Mary, hast bestowed upon mankind the rewards of eternal salvation; grant, we beseech Thee, that we may feel the benefit of her intercession for us, through whom we have deserved to receive the author of life, our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who livest and reignest, etc.

EPISTLE (Tit. 2:11-15). GOSPEL (Lk. 2:21). At that time, after eight days were accomplished that the child should be circumcised, his name was called Jesus, which was called by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

Why did Jesus submit to Circumcision?

That He might show His great love for us, which caused Him even at the very beginning of His life, to shed His blood to cleanse us thereby from all our sins. Furthermore to teach us obedience to the commandments of God and His Church, since He voluntarily subjected Himself to the Jewish law, although He was not in the least bound by it, which ordered that every male child should be circumcised on the eighth day after its birth (Lev. 12:3).

Why was He named Jesus?

Because Jesus means Redeemer and Savior, and He had come to redeem and save the world (Mt. 1:21). This is the holiest, most venerable, and most powerful name by which we can be saved.

What power has this name?

The greatest power, for it repels all attacks of the evil Spirit, as Jesus Himself says (Mk. 16:17). And so great is the efficacy of this most holy name that even those who are not righteous, can by it expel devils (Mt. 7:22). It has power to cure physical pains and evils, as when used by the apostles (Acts. 3:3-7), and Christ promised that the faithful by using it could do the same (Mk. 16:17). St. Bernard calls the name of Jesus a "Medicine"; and St. Chrysostom says, "This name cures all ills; it gives succor in all the ailments of the soul, in temptations, in faintheartedness, in sorrow, and in all evil desires, etc." "Let him who cannot excite contrition in his heart for the sins he has committed, think of the loving, meek, and suffering Jesus, invoke His holy name with fervor and confidence, and he will feel his heart touched and made better," says St. Lawrence Justinian. It overcomes and dispels the temptations of the enemy: "When we fight against Satan in the name of Jesus," says the martyr St. Justin, "Jesus fights for us, in us, and with us, and the enemies must flee as soon as they hear the name of Jesus." It secures us help and blessings in all corporal and spiritual necessities, because nothing is impossible to him who asks in the name of Jesus, whatever tends to his salvation will be given him (Jn. 14:13). Therefore it is useful above all things, to invoke this holy name in all dangers of body and soul, in doubts, in temptations, especially in temptations against holy chastity, and still more so when one has fallen into sin, from which he desires to be delivered; for this name is like oil (Cant. 1:2) which cures, nourishes, and illumines.

How must this name be pronounced to experience its power?

With lively faith, with steadfast, unshaken confidence, with deep­est reverence and devotion, for in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those that are in heaven, on earth, and under the earth (Phil. 2:10). What wickedness, then, is theirs who habitually pronounce this name carelessly and irreverently, upon every occasion! Such a habit is certainly diabolical; for the damned and the devils constantly abuse God and His holy name.

Why does this name so seldom manifest its power in our days?

Because Christian faith is daily becoming weaker, and confidence less, while perfect submission to the will of God is wanting. When faith grows stronger among people, and confidence greater, then will the power of this most sacred name manifest itself in more wonderful and consoling aspects.

PRAYER TO JESUS IN DIFFICULTIES

O Jesus! Consolation of the afflicted! Thy name is indeed poured out like oil; for Thou dost illumine those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death; Thou dost disperse the blindness of the soul and dost cure its ills; Thou givest food and drink to those who hunger and thirst after justice. Be also, O Jesus! my Savior, the phy­sician of my soul, the healer of its wounds. O Jesus! Succor of those who are in need, be my protector in temptations! O Jesus! Father of the poor, do Thou nourish me! O Jesus! joy of the angels, do Thou comfort me! O Jesus! my only hope and refuge, be my helper in the hour of death, for there is given us no other name beneath the sun by which we may be saved, but Thy most blessed name Jesus!

EXHORTATION St. Paul says: All whatsoever you do in word or in work, all things do ye in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ (Col. 3:17). We should, therefore, follow the example of the saints, and continually say, at least in our hearts: "For love of Thee, O Jesus, I rise; for love of Thee I lie down; for love of Thee I eat, drink, and enjoy myself; for love of Thee I work, speak, or am silent." Thus we will accustom ourselves to do all in the name of Jesus, by which everything is easily or at least meritoriously accomplished.

PRAYER TO BE SAID ON NEW YEAR'S DAY

"When you had a traditional gold standard, boom and bust with severe swings in economic activity were the norm--really big ones. It was only once we moved to fiat money that central banks were able to smooth the business cycle, and make it less volatile, as we did during the financial economic crisis." - Nov 2010

Where do they get these ideas? Or rather where did I get the idea the boom and busts would be smaller in a gold based society? I know I have heard this multiple times.

But they did have bank panics in the 1800s. So maybe they are right?

My bet is that the booms and busts will occur in a gold based economy but they will not be so big and wild or last as long as in a fiat money based economy.

The person who posted this is well meaning. He senses that Roubini is wrong, but he is not sure exactly why. He is typical of the overwhelming minority of those who think that a gold standard would be a good idea. He means well, but, as they say, he doesn't get it.

Why, at the time of Augustus, were all the Roman subjects enrolled?

This happened by a special ordinance of God, that by this enrollment Mary and Joseph should be obliged to go to Bethlehem, that it might be made known to the world that Christ was really born at Bethlehem, of the tribe of Juda, and the house of David, and that He was the Messiah who had been foretold by the prophets (Mich. 5:2).

Let us learn from this how the providence of God directs all things according to His will, and consider the obedience which Mary rendered to the command of a heathen emperor, or rather to God who caused the command.

Why is Christ called the "first-born" of Mary?

Because she gave birth to no child before Him; she bore none after Him, He was the only son of Mary, as He was the only-begotten Son of the Heavenly Father.

Why was Christ born in such poverty?

To teach us not by words but by example that which He afterwards so often preached and forcibly taught, namely: the love of poverty, the practice of humility and patience with contempt of the world, and also to confound by His humble birth the foolish wisdom of the world which seeks only honors, pleasures and riches.

Why was the birth of Christ announced to poor shepherds, and not to King Herod and the chief priests?

That it might be known that God loves to dwell with poor, simple, pious, faithful people, such as the shepherds were, and reveals Himself to those who are little in their own eyes (Mt. 11:25), while He despises the proud and leaves them over to their own spiritual blindness.

Let us learn from this to acquire simplicity and humility, and despise pride and cunning, that God may reveal Himself to us by His interior inspirations.

What is meant by the angelic song of praise: "Glory be to God on high"?

By this song of praise which the priests usually say in the Mass is meant that the greatest praise and the most heartfelt thanks are due to God for having sent His Son into the world; and that those who have the good will to glorify God by all their actions, will receive peace, that is, all happiness, blessings, and salvation.

Rejoice with the angels over the birth of the Savior, return thanks to God, and honor Him alone in all things, that you may have that peace: peace with God, peace with yourself and peace with all men.

Learn also from the angels, who rejoiced in the graces which man would receive from the birth of Christ, to rejoice, and thank God for the favors which He gives your neighbor, and by rejoicing participate in them.

Social Security has the dual distinction of being both an abysmal failure and a whopping success, and that’s not just political double-speak. It all depends on the side of the coin you favor.


As the most-egregious—and unconstitutional—Ponzi scheme of all time (today’s elderly recipients are funded by young workers, not from their own contributions of yore), Social Security is irreversibly insolvent. In 1950, the worker-to-beneficiary ratio was 16.5-to-1. In 2010, that ratio is almost 2-to-1.

Notwithstanding the political nonsense, Social Security’s failure is rooted not in actuarial anomalies but in the violation of immutable psychology: people succeed only when they are responsible for their own decisions and actions. When government manages your life, it will fail—and, therefore, you will fail.


Examples of socialism’s failure abound—from the Weimar Republic to the Soviet Union to Cuba. Even the history of Thanksgiving provides such a lesson. The colonists at Plymouth Plantation were starving because of laziness and dependence on the industrious few who produced food. In 1623, Massachusetts Governor Bradford fixed the problem by abolishing socialism and mandating self-sufficiency. He gave each household a parcel of land and the right to keep or trade any food produced—or face starvation. End of famine.

Boot the US Fish and Wildlife OUT of the States.

HOW FAR WE'VE SUNK


According to the Reno Gazette Journal on 3 December "Nevada wildlife commissioners are scheduled today to discuss the possibility of adopting a regulation, at least temporarily, that would change the gray wolf's official status from a protected game animal to an unprotected one -- the same as coyotes and skunks, which can be shot at any time."

Enter the federal interloper of the week. Bob Williams, Nevada supervisor of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service arguing that "It's basically saying if you see a wolf, you can shoot it," he said. "It's the wrong message. It's just the wrong thing to do." "There will be an occasional wolf that comes into Nevada, and we shouldn't be afraid of them".

Oh, really? There are three very alarming aspects to this report that must not go unchallenged.

First, here we have an audacious federal field-marshal telling elected state officials that he considers his and his agencies' federal moral values superior to state values, so therefore what the US Constitution clearly authorizes the state to regulate is, according to this federal official, "wrong". Whether we quote the enviable and successful Constitutional jurisdiction of state governments over all wildlife within their borders that has served this country well for over 200 years; whether we consult all the Treaties and laws usurping this state authority (Migratory Birds, Marine Mammal "Protection" i.e. non-management, Federal land purchase, "Law" of the Sea, Wetland "Protection" i.e. private property seizure, "Native" species & ecosystem "Restoration"; and whether we review all the federal agencies' brazenly written "regulations" and "rules (for the little they are worth legally) like Wilderness, Roadless, Access, Closures, Permits, Non-Management, Non-Use, redefining "navigable" waters, specious assertions about pollution and manufactured Armageddon fantasies like global warming, global cooling, desertification, Marine Sanctuaries, and myriad "Special" Regulations on everything from gun possession, logging, and grazing to class requirements for citizens to use public land: nowhere does the word "WRONG" appear.

"Wrong" as expressed here is mere tyrannical humbuggery. It simply expresses the personal preferences of federal overseers (over not only over our state government but thereby over us as well). I leave it to the reader to conclude their motives that truthfully have little or nothing to do with wildlife or the "pursuit of Happiness" of the residents of Nevada.

This is merely the moral posturing of those currently in power at the federal level. This sort of intimidation is akin to Nazi thugs telling some German Gauleiter, or some Soviet Commissar telling some occupied-country "leader" that something he is doing is "wrong". As such this USFWS spokesman should have been sent packing by the state and his employing federal agency cautioned that state residents do not pay federal taxes to enable federal agencies and their employees to undercut or influence state Constitutional authority based on their own federal unconstitutional agendas. When such things are let "stand" they are merely precedents for further tyranny.

Imagine a UN official telling our federal government in Washington that our private property policies or our gun rights are "wrong". While the current federal managers would likely shrug, any federal government worth its salt that did not send the UN official packing and tell the UN to keep its nose out of the US tent should not be tolerated.

Secondly, whether or not any state or local community has any or some certain abundance of wolves is constitutionally a state matter under state authority. The federal claim in this area is based on a perversion of questionable federal law to begin with. Not only has the federal government falsely claimed the abundant-worldwide wolf to be an Endangered Species, the federal Endangered Species Act that was passed to "save" whales and eagles and flies has been perverted to authorizing the fantastic and non-scientific "restoration" of "native" ecosystems and species. This immeasurable and indefinable purpose is an unlimited claim by federal officials to claim unlimited budgets and staffs as well as implying and attempting to secure authority over all remaining private property and human activities not already under the federal heel of the EPA, federal land owners, and the associated non-government-organizations that own or ease properties in the millions of acres worth many, many billions of dollars.

Again, any federal officials or federal agency attempting to "steer" state government exercise of state Constitutional authority over any wildlife not under federal jurisdiction should not be tolerated. In fact, the most "Just" (as in rightful or appropriate) regulation of animals such as wolves or other deadly (to man) animals like cougars, grizzly bears, black bears, and coyotes should be based first and foremost on the desires of local communities like towns, cities, townships, and Counties. This is called the principle of subsidiarity or government that is based at the lowest level and is therefore the best for all humans and their "unalienable rights".

The most important responsibility of governments is the protection of human life. Nothing is further from this responsibility than for government to unjustly endanger human lives for any reason other than to save more human lives.

Third and last, any federal official that burbles that ""There will be an occasional wolf that comes into Nevada, and we shouldn't be afraid of them" is a liar that should be fired on the spot! If the federal employer pushes that line, they and their employees should be barred from the state as a self-defined danger to the "peace and tranquility" of the state.

Current newspapers from Georgia and Alaska to Saskatchewan, Kazakhstan, and Russia detail the death and severe injury of numerous humans, especially children, women and unarmed men. History books, Will Graves' "Wolves in Russia", Stanley Young's "Wolves in North America", newspaper archives, and numberless reports from the likes of John James Audubon to Leo Tolstoy are replete with account after account of wolves killing and maiming humans for "reasons" too numerous to mention here.

Any "expert" or "scientist" or "naturalist" or "bureaucrat" or town drunk saying that "we shouldn't be afraid of them" (i.e. wolves) is giving scandal (i.e. deceiving others to commit a deadly error in judgment) to those that mistakenly and naively believe them. If only one child or one woman hiker or one dog-walker dies as a result of believing this lie, the blame belongs on such liar and any sponsoring organization/employer spreading such a lie..

Whatever way this blame for the inevitable human deaths is treated by our currently unpredictable courts, tolerating federal intervention into state intentions to avoid this unavoidable danger is laudable and the federal intentions to the contrary deserve both condemnation and defeat.

Human deaths are increasingly inevitable as wolves spread, big game herds are reduced, and most especially as burgeoning wolf populations become familiarized with or habituated to human habitations and human activities.

Reasons are too numerous to mention here but everything from rabies, to need for food for pups, to winter hunger, and the 30 or more diseases and infections transmitted by wolves will magnify the inevitable human encounters from hunters to gardeners to a child taking out the garbage in the evening. There will be a rash of attacks soon and then there will be the steady incidence of sporadic attacks with periodic outbreaks of sustained attacks just as reported down through the ages of in places like India, Kazakhstan, Russia, Georgia and other wolf-havens today.

Why the same urban people that lock up their kids and call the police when some Doberman or Staffordshire terrier runs down the street believe this lie about not fearing a bigger dog (i.e. a "wolf" that is the same species as dogs and coyotes) that has never been domesticated and that can be desperately hungry, never gotten "shots", and routinely kills animal many times bigger for both food and "fun" (to be anthropomorphic) is beyond comprehension.

Go get 'em Nevada. We are truly "all Nevadans" with a stake in your bold confrontation on behalf of liberty.

Lesson from the Book of Wisdom - Ecclus. 51, 1-12

I will give glory to Thy name: for Thou hast been a helper and protector to me, and hast preserved my body from destruction, from the snare of an unjust tongue, and from the lips of them that forge lies; and in the sight of them that stood by, Thou hast been my helper; and Thou hast delivered me, according to the multitude of the mercy of Thy name, from them that did roar, prepared to devour. This old sinner has a lot to be Thankful for, especially in the last two years.

The battle for the hearts, minds and souls of men rages on throughout history, but at no time except perhaps when Jesus Christ walked this earth, has society been more depraved and in danger of eternal punishment.

I am reminded of the persecution of the Christians in the Coliseum by Nero, when the depraved citizens of Rome, who were drunk with free bread and circuses cried out for the blood of the Christians, while those under sentence of death sang hymns to God for their final deliverance from this world of sin and death, and looked forward to an eternity of happiness with Him in heaven.

The radical left reminds me of those citizens of Rome who were emboldened by their depraved leader Nero, and who were so dissolute that they demanded to be entertained by the excruciating deaths of their fellow citizens, and who reveled and cheered when the lions tore them to pieces. How evil and perverted they were.

Like those who revel in theft under the color of law to "spread the wealth around" and like those who think that government owes them a living because "they are poor", not caring for a minute that their poverty might be something of their own doing or lack thereof.  Yes I am comparing the Roman blood lust to our modern day depravity of "entitlements". Why -  because that is what the socialist and communist ideas lead too.

In every communist takeover throughout history, the ideas of "entitlements" and "redistribution of wealth" have always lead to mass murder and suffering. Why?  Because those ideas fly in the face of the natural law and human nature itself. It is not only against divine law and natural law to steal from one and give to another, but it is contained in the very heart and soul of man to produce from the ability to own property so as to benefit with charity those who don't have the opportunity to own property. We are admonished in the Bible to do so.  "Let him who would steal, rather work with his hands that he might have something to benefit those who are in need."

Those who have this motivation are called "Charitable" and those who don't, are called "greedy". So it is the same age old struggle of good against evil, that gives us the opportunity to create merit towards the eternal life by pleasing God while we are here. The age old saying is "You can't take it with you."  I beg to differ. There is a way to take all of one's wealth with you to the next life. That is by exercising true Charity towards one's fellow man voluntarily while we yet have the chance. Many of the Catholic canonized Saints were born in the high ranks of Kings and wealthy, but they gave all their wealth away towards doing good works and were despised by many of their comptemporaries and called crazy for doing so. But the good which they did lives on and the souls that were inspired to change their lives and repent of their sins were legion.

The battle between good and evil rages around us, but it can only effect us in our relationship with God if we give in to the temptations the battle causes us to endure, and God will NOT allow us to suffer anything beyond our ability to endure (with His help). 

My conclusion then is that the primary thing to be thankful for is that we are still here and able to do battle for Him and his teachings.

Once in a while God allows us to win a battle in this war even while we yet walk this earth. I am thankful for the way the midterm elections turned out on Nov. 2nd. But I also realize that the infowar rages on and demands much yet. I have no illusions that we can finally win that war once and for all, because even if we succeed in turning the path away from communism in America, we won't thereby stop the evil influences created by fallen human nature and the legions of hell. The battle demands constant attention and freedom demands constant vigilance and prayer. 

But there is nothing that brings God's blessings on a nation quite like the GRATITUTDE of the people whom God blesses.
I am reminded of the story in the Bible of Jonah and the whale.  Once Jonah finally decided to obey God and had gone to Ninive and started to preach repentance, the King and the people listened and prayed and did penance and changed their ways, and God heard them and decided NOT to punish them, but rather blessed them.
Let us earn God's blessings by true gratitude on this day, and by prayer and penance to bring His mercy on our country.  That is my prayer for all of us today.

RIGHTING "WRONGS" BASED ON WRONG INTERPRETATIONS OF "RIGHTS"

Socialists, from President Obama on down, look at the government as the creator and administrator of rights. That is why even some on the left liked the Heller and the McDonald decisions which overturned gun bans in Washington, DC and Chicago.


Don’t get me wrong, I’m ecstatic that the Supreme Court ruled against these the gun bans in these two cities. And I’d rather be in our shoes today than in the Brady Campaign’s -- as they saw their arguments slapped down harshly by the Court.

So why then would some big-government types like these two decisions -- especially the McDonald case out of Chicago?

The music of the Sons of Liberty is a real surprise to me.  I almost can't listen to this style of "music" because of it's shock value, but maybe that is what is needed among the sheeple that do listen to this kind of music.

The name of the album is "Brush-Fires of the Mind"

The booklet that comes with the album tells quite a story, and the lyrics of their songs are very well informed.
The only caution I have about this is to warn Americans not to get drawn into initiating any kind of violence.

We should be in a strictly DEFENSIVE posture. And if we are attacked? Well I leave that to you.
But for myself, I am not getting on their bus or helicopter.

THE RIGHT TO TRAVEL - Do we have it or not?

This is the most well thought out article I have seen about all this TSA crap!

Over the past few years we have seen a drastic increase in the control of the American people wishing to travel by public conveyance. We are required to undergo abusive and demeaning TSA inspections of the variety normally reserved for criminals. In fact that is exactly what they are looking for and will treat each and every one of us as criminals even though no crime has been committed (at least by us).


Video after video can be found popping up on online sites showing people being groped, insulted, embarrassed, assaulted, detained without cause, threatened, and arrested – all without any evidence or even suspicion of having committing any crime.

TSA officials, as well as others, have stated that if you do no want to undergo such treatment then do not fly. But as everyone knows that, in today’s world, it is nearly impossible for many people to conduct business or make a living and avoid flying.

THOUGHTFUL THANKSGIVING MESSAGE

On October 3, 1789, during his first year as President, George Washington issued a proclamation that set aside Thursday, November 26 (1789) as "A Day of Public Thanksgiving and Prayer." EXPLANATION When you shall see the abomination of desolation. The abomination of desolation of which Daniel (IX. 27.) and Christ here speak, is the desecration of the temple and the city of Jerusalem by the rebellious Jews by perpetrating the most abominable vices, injustices and robberies, &c., but principally by the pagan Romans by putting up their idols. This destruction which was accomplished in the most fearful manner about forty years after the death of Christ, was foretold by Him according to the testimony of St. Luke. (XXI. 20.) At the same time He speaks of the end of the world and of His coming to judgment, of which the desolation of Jerusalem was a figure.

Pray that your flight be not in the winter or on the Sabbath. Because, as St. Jerome says, the severe cold which reigns in the deserts and mountains would pre­vent the people from going thither to seek security, and because it was forbidden by the law for the Jews to travel on the Sabbath.

There shall rise false Christs and false prophets. According to the testimony of the Jewish historian Josephus, who was an eyewitness of the destruction of Jerusalem, Eleazar, John, Simon, &c., were such false prophets who under the pretence of helping the Jews, brought them into still greater misfortunes; before the end of the world it will be Antichrist with his followers, whom St. Paul calls the man of sin and the son of perdition, (II Thess. II. 3.) on account of his diabolical malice and cruelty. He will rise up, sit in the temple, proclaim himself God, and kill all who will not recognize him as such. His splendor, his promises and his false miracles will be such that even the holy and just will be in danger of being seduced, but for their sake God will shorten these days of persecution.

Wheresoever the body shall be, there shall the eagles also be gathered together. That is, where the wicked are, who have aimed at spiritual corruption, there punishment will overtake and destroy them.

This generation shall not pass till all these things be done. By these words Christ defines the time of the destruction of Jerusalem, and says that many of His hearers would live to see it, which also happened. But when the end of the world will come, He says, not even the angels in heaven know. (Matt. XXIV. 36.) Let us endeavor to be always ready by leading a holy life, for the coming of the divine Judge, and meditate often on the words of our di­vine Lord: Heaven and earth shall pass, but my words shall not pass.
PRAYER Remove from us, O Lord, all that is calculated to rob us of Thy love. Break the bonds with which we are tied to the world, that we may not be lost with it. Give us the wings of eagles that we may soar above all worldly things by the contemplation of Thy sufferings, life and death, that we may hasten towards Thee now, and gather about Thee, that we may not become a prey to the rapacious enemy on the day of judgment. Amen.
