Letting Dad and Mom Go

 By Anna Von Reitz

My Mother was a brilliant woman and a loyal wife and Mother.  She was, in many, many ways, a rock.  But she was not entirely normal or sane; she had suffered a great deal in her life and had PTSD that regularly got out of control.

This led to everything from paranoia to severe bouts of anger and depression, which she took out on my Sister and I.  It also meant that in order to survive intact, I had to distance myself from my Mother at an early age, recognize that she had these problems for these reasons, and -- in a sense, let her go.

I had to understand the dark place where she was coming from and her constant efforts to protect me from that darkness, even while discerning reality in the present moment.

It wasn't easy.

My Sister never succeeded in separating herself entirely from Mother's mental damage, and still suffers because she feels that she never had a mother --- and she wanted and needed one.

Many people have similar issues with parents -- either because the parents were damaged by their parents or by poverty hardships, or because of social attacks (race, creed, color, religion, sex, age), or war,
because of alcoholism, drug addiction, or all the other reasons there are that render people unfit, unable, or undesirable as parents.

We can't let our parents' wounds be our wounds.

We can't let the cycle of fear and anger and hatred continue.

The Mercenary Wars that our country has been constantly embroiled in for more than a century and a half mean that millions of Americans have been more or less maimed by loss of friends and family, loss of limbs, loss of mental integrity, loss of security, loss of peace, loss of trust, loss of culture, loss of family integrity, loss of moral standards, loss of a common set of national values, loss of religion.... the list goes on and on.

And on.

We are a whole nation of the Walking Wounded.  Virtually nobody, including the successful Draft Dodgers, have escaped unscathed from the horrors of WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf I, Gulf II, Afghanistan and all the hundreds of nameless horrifying incursions into other countries that we have been goaded and deceived into.

Not only was my Mother wounded by WWII, but my Father was, too. His life and his quality of life were greatly truncated by physical injuries sustained and never compensated. He somehow found the strength to laugh in the face of a long, terrible death.

Yes, the Greatest Generation may have been the Greatest, but they were also the most wounded.

Most of my friends' Fathers were not intact emotionally, cold, distant, violent, competitive, profit-driven, unfeeling, uncaring, critical, demanding, and amoral, they trampled on their children and their wives and their mistresses, leading to an explosion in unwed mothers and abandoned babies.

For me, my Father's illness meant that from the age of fifteen to twenty-five, I had to be an active wage-earner and a nurse and a handyman and a mechanic.  I had to put myself through college.  I had to scrub dishes and walk dogs and do all the most menial labor you can imagine, just scraping by and trying to deal with all the other heartbreaks and lessons learned as a young adult.

By the time my Father died, I had the eyes of a forty year-old woman.
I sang at his funeral and didn't let my voice tremble.

For the Mother I never really knew as a whole personality, for the Father I so dearly loved and lost so early and under such terrible conditions, for the poverty and the toil, for all of this I could certainly grieve and give up, give way to tantrums of pain and guilt and every other emotion that doesn't help.

After all, doesn't every child look at their parents and think --- well, if it happened to them, it will probably happen to me?

God help me, I was made of sterner stuff.  I did not give up. I did not let my parents' misery become mine.  I loved them to the best of my ability while they lived and then, one drop at a time, I let them go.

Many people try to face grief all at once and all alone; I advise against that approach.  Better to stand off at a respectful distance and let grief come to you, a little bit here, a little bit there, in the quiet moments, in the joyous moments.... just let it come, a drop here and a drop there, until the reservoir of grief is gone, and only the memories worth keeping remain.

Many people get caught in emotional feedback loops, endlessly reliving incidents that caused them pain and fear or shame or anger, or some combination of all these combined, unable to break out of it.  For many of us, this kind of damage occurred when we were so young, it never crossed our minds that we could break out of the misery and distance ourselves from it. Look back on it as if it happened to someone else in another lifetime.

And whether we ever knew our parents or not, we are somehow aware that these two primal relationships matter -- or were supposed to matter, and so we are fascinated and often quietly troubled even as adults, by unanswered questions.  Why did.... how could she....and most haunting of all --- was it my fault?  Could I have changed it somehow?

The answer, of course, is that no child bears the guilt for failed parent-child relationships, and often, neither do the parents, who are wrestling their own limitations and demons.

In the end, if we manage to grow up physically healthy and mentally able, we have to count ourselves lucky and learn to deal with the emotional scars of growing up in a War Tribe Society, where nearly everyone has been wounded and crippled by war, war, war, war, and more war.

And we have to swallow the bitter fact that 95% of all this violence and loss and degradation and bloodshed was for nothing more or less than the rich man's profit, and yes, for most of us --- in the words of the modern prophets, "I Ain't No Fortunate Son".

The majority of our parents who were supposed to protect and nurture us, couldn't protect and nurture themselves. They were the casualties of war, whether or not they came home.  They tried their best and one by one they lost, so we, their children, observe this and go our own way to the grave.

Or do we learn to let it all go?  Not in one great tidal wave of disappointment, anger, or remorse -- but drop by drop, and bit by bit, until all our wounds become our strength?  Until we stand like great fortresses
undaunted, aware, and alive, not needing anyone to blame anymore, not needing to apologize, not yearning for some other life or some other answer, but content with the task before us: to build a new world.

This month, visit with your parents, alive or dead.  Bring them up in your thoughts and memories.  Look at them for all they are and all they aren't.
Accept them.  Just accept.  You don't have to like them or love them. You don't have to agree or believe.  Look at them and their lives with as much objectivity as you can muster -- and let them go.  Let them be. In peace.

You aren't doing this review for their sake, though it may lead you to see things you never saw before. Adult compassion has a way of replacing childhood grief, but even if that miracle doesn't come to you, you can have peace.  You can give yourself that gift this New Year-- and be free as a bird that found its own wings.

Citizens -- Plural

 By Anna Von Reitz

The physically-defined organic States of the Union have only one kind of citizen --- a State Citizen.

State Citizens hold a unique allegiance to their State of the Union and no other government at all.

This is to enable them to act in the best interests of their State with a clear conscience and no conflict of interest.  This, in turn, provides a "check and balance" to Federal Subcontractor overreach.

These State Citizens are "Organic" Citizens --- Lawful Persons of the people who live in the Organic States of the Union.

All the other kinds of citizens "inhabit" --on a temporary basis-- the Non-Organic States of States and are "residents" with respect to our States under the Residency Act.

The other kinds of citizenry originally included United States Citizens belonging to the original Confederation of States and the Federal Republic --- please note: "United States Citizens".

Then, also, British Territorial Citizens known as "U.S. Citizens" and Municipal citizens of the United States (referenced in the 14th Amendment of the USA Corporate Charter).

Here's what George Washington had to say about it:

To quote George Washington on the subject: "To every description of citizens, let praise be given, but let them persevere in their affectionate vigilance over that precious depository of American happiness, the Constitution of the United States. Let them cherish it, too, for the sake of those who, from every clime, are daily seeking a dwelling in our land."

****Remember that "the" United States that Washington is referring to and 'the Constitution of the United States' that is being referred to in popular terms is the Federal Constitution of the Federal Republic (1787) from which the Territorial and Municipal Constitutions derived.****

All these citizens of different kinds and political statuses are supposed to work together in common cause for their own good and the good of the country as a whole.

We can judge how far our intended system has been corrupted and declined by the fact that so many people are clueless about their own political status, whether they are "citizens" of any kind or not, and if so, which kind of citizen are they?

****Remember that "United States Citizens" upholding both the Confederation of States and the Federal Republic ceased to function in 1860-61, so today we are left with State Citizens, Territorial U.S. Citizens, and Municipal citizens of the United States. The missing United States Citizen status will return when and if Reconstruction is completed by the States.****

Guidance for Assemblies

 By Anna Von Reitz

Regarding Limitations of Vetting Committees and Coordinators:

A Coordinator's job is to help people understand what the assembly process requires, for example, help them understand what a lawful election requires, and then help them achieve that goal.

The Coordinator is the go-between the Assembly and the Federation, a "point person" who goes back and forth between the Assembly and the Federation to answer questions and get assistance. Their role is supportive and educational, not political.

If a Coordinator feels so strongly about an issue that they have to get in the middle of it at an Assembly level as a member of the Assembly, then they need to resign from the Coordinator position and go have at it.

In our system....

Any candidate has a right to stand for an office if he or she is eligible and the people of each State have the right to a free and open election in which they and nobody else makes the choice to elect or not elect a candidate.

A Vetting Committee oversteps its bounds if and when it goes beyond evaluating eligibility of The Candidate —- for example, a Vetting Committee decides they don't like a candidate's attitude or personality, and they disqualify him though he meets all the factual eligibility requirements.

What next?  We could have a Vetting Committee that doesn’t like black candidates or Hindu candidates or female candidates and everyone thinks it’s okay for them to disqualify otherwise eligible candidates based on their own likes and dislikes?

If we sink to that, what’s the point in having elections?

If a Vetting Committee prevents an eligible candidate from getting on the ballot, simply because they as a group don't like him, the Electorate gets short-changed.  You, the Electors, don't get to see all the choices.

That’s not the American Way.  That’s the CCP and Politburo and DNC and RNC way of doing things.  They select and you elect from among their pre-selected choices.

We present all eligible candidates to the Electorate and the Electors choose.

Put another way—-

There is a big difference between the factual determination of eligibility for office and the subjective choice of who is or is not desirable or suitable for an office.

A Vetting Committee can determine the facts that establish eligibility.

It takes an Electorate to determine suitability.

Moving on.... about  American State Nationals (ASN's) who are federally licensed or employed....

People who are licensed (doctors, nurses, dentists, real estate agents, etc.) and people who work directly for incorporated County, State, or Federal departments and agencies, as well as non-retired military personnel, are considered to be Dual Citizens by the Federales, and "Nationals" by us.

In the original State system they are only allowed to vote on in-State issues.

As you are establishing your Courts it is important to elect State Citizens as Justices, Clerks, and Sheriffs, so that they can address both in-State and international subject matter.

Then, from your Statewide Jury Pool, you select juries to consider in-State issues from among all eligible jurors, and juries to consider International issues (between your State and other States of the Union or foreign countries) from among all eligible State Citizens.

You should be aware of those who carry Dual Citizenship and have open talks with them about the possibility that there will be a conflict of interest between their Federal Licensor/Employer and the good of the State.

The role of the Assembly in such a situation is to uphold the State's rights and prerogatives, so as to check and balance Federal overreach.

Each National in Dual Citizenship status needs to think about that and agree that in the event of such a conflict of interest their part as a member of the State Assembly is to uphold State's rights.

If such a conflict of interest becomes acute and a Dual Citizen is forced to choose between their job or their licensed status and loyalty to the State, then each faces a hard decision, but it is one that must be honestly addressed and it involves quitting either the job and/or the license, or quitting involvement in the State Assembly regarding that issue.

It is a matter of personal honor as well as Constitutional principle to uphold Checks and Balances whenever possible, and if it is not possible, to withdraw and do no harm to the State.

Remember that the States are the only truly sovereign government entities present and all else derives from the States of the Union, including the Federal Government. Preserving the States and their rights means preserving the security and rights guaranteed to Americans from every walk of life and political persuasion.

So, whether you are free to act as a State Citizen, or you act as a British Territorial U.S. Citizen or as a Municipal citizen of the United States, all are first and best served by protecting the interests of the State at all costs.

The Old Guard Never Got It and Likely Never Will

 By Anna Von Reitz

There are many "patriots" out there who have spent their entire lives under a set of completely incorrect assumptions -- which is why, apart from plain thuggishness on the part of their adversaries,
it's so hard to get anywhere.

Edwin Viera, a brilliant lawyer, unable to gain traction against the corruption of his own profession, Devvy Kidd, who has no idea how many different kinds of Judges and Justices there are in this system calling me a "fake Judge" because I am not a Bar Attorney, and Ron Vrooman thinking that he is leading Oregon home when he never arrived himself, and so it goes, on and on and on.

Having established that yes, there is a problem, nobody stands still long enough to look at the Big Picture to determine the scope of the problem, the age of the problem, or the complexity of the problem.  They all just take off on a tangent and start whumping at each other and everything else.

One of the chief problems is that most of these gurus think that we, the American people, stand under the Constitutions.  And we don't.
We stand under The Declaration of Independence.

Another problem is that they don't realize where they are in terms of their personal records and political status, so they never bother to correct anything.  All they do is wade in and slug, slug, slug ---while remaining in a political capacity that makes them sitting ducks.

See Stewart Rhodes, Tim Turner, the Colorado Nine and a host of others including all the January 6 Defendants.

A third major problem is that Patriot Gurus habitually identify the wrong problems and waste time trying to solve things that don't actually need to be solved.  Case in point, Devvy Kidd griping about the Bad Courts dismissing cases and demanding that parties have standing with regard to an issue before they can prosecute claims and take other actions.

As smart as this woman seems, does it make sense that someone who has no dog in the fight should complain about things they have no actual interest in?  Should I be able to gripe about and sue for damages related to someone else's property?  Hello?

That's what the "standing" requirement is all about.

Maybe if she'd listen long enough Devvy would learn that she doesn't own DEVVY KIDD, and that's why she has no standing to complain about harm done to DEVVY KIDD. And no reason to defend DEVVY KIDD, either.

John Daresh and the National Liberty Alliance are the same way. Beautiful wonderful work on Common Law, magnificent writs, endless effort.  No clue.  Won't listen.

Rod Class, love him to death, addicted to Federal Code, doesn't know that the Municipal Government is a separate and foreign plenary oligarchy. Clif High got that right, but apparently doesn't know about the Territorial Government and thinks the Municipal Government is generally under Federal Code --- which it's not.

I'm not blaming them.  I am not insulting their skills or their hearts or their intelligence.  I'm just observing that until we form a common basis of reliable knowledge -- a reliable Mind Map of the history and law and jurisdictions and treaties and contracts involved as well as knowing the identities of the parties --  everyone is just chasing around like rats in a maze, bumping into each other and adding to the confusion.

A fourth Big Obstacle is that many of the Old Guard expend all their time and energy learning Federal Code and trying to use Federal Code--- and average Americans don't stand under Federal Code.  It's foreign private corporate law that has nothing whatsoever to do with Joe Average.  Please stop.

It's very impressive that you can recite chapter and verse, but what does that matter, if it doesn't apply to you?  The only reason to learn Federal Code is to be able to put it under Federal official's noses to prove to them what they are supposed to do, and usually aren't doing.

A fifth problem with our Patriot community is that our people constantly address the wrong courts.  They address in-State Courts about Federal issues and Federal Courts about in-State issues and often bungle up with the County Courts as well.  The bottom line is that all these courts are foreign with respect to average Americans and shouldn't be addressing Joe Average at all.

A sixth problem is that our people constantly offer to contact with these foreign agencies and courts --- unknowingly.

Did you know, for example, that you grant their courts jurisdiction simply by walking through the door?  You'd better be prepared to plainly say that you are not there to contract with them and are not crossing the bar to engage them,  if you wish to retain jurisdictional claims.

And that leads into the seventh problem --- not knowing what jurisdiction these courts are operating in. There are only three jurisdictions that these courts represent--- private Administrative Law of the corporations, Maritime Law (Contract Law), and Admiralty Law, but patriots persist in trying to practice other kinds of law in these courts without success -- then wonder why?

Well, what happens if you try to play golf on a checkerboard?

All this results in an insurmountable communication SNAFU.

None of us know what we don't know, but we need to listen until we do know what we do know.

Oftentimes when the Old Guard is faced with new or different information, they dig in.  They plant their feet like Army mules.  They go on and on under wrong assumptions. They get nowhere and then they blame whoever tried to help them.  Me, for example.

It has been twenty years of this, and more.

That's why I am doing the Granna Bites series on YouTube to physically bring people through the maze of names and history. When I am through everyone will have the common knowledge base needed to sort through things for themselves.

Montana Take Action to Stop SJ 2 the Con-Con

https://oneclickpolitics.global.ssl.fastly.net/messages/edit?promo_id=10665

ACT NOW: Members of the Montana Legislature are seeking to pass a resolution applying to Congress to “call a Convention for proposing Amendments,” under Article V of the Constitution, otherwise known as a constitutional convention (Con-Con) or “convention of the states,” as some erroneously refer to it.

Senate Joint Resolution No. 2 (SJ 2) follows the wording of Mark Meckler’s Convention of States (COS) Project application, urging Congress to call a convention to propose amendments “that impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limit the terms of office for its officials and for members of Congress.”

This vaguely-worded resolution claims that a convention would somehow be “limited to” the mentioned topics, and it also gives a list of “reservations, understandings, and declarations” that seek to convince legislators that a convention will not get out of control. In reality, any convention could lead to a runaway convention that would reverse many of the Constitution’s limitations on government power and interference. In other words, a Con-Con could accomplish the same goals that many of its advocates claim to be fighting against. As evidence, a 2016 Convention of States (COS) controlled simulation resulted in amendments massively increasing the federal government and expanding its spending powers.

The late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia understood the danger of a constitutional convention. While he voiced support for one at a 1979 event, the justice had reversed his opinion by 2014 due to the uncertainty of what could come out of it. In 2015, Scalia reiterated his opposition to an Article V convention, stating “this is not a good century to write a constitution.”

On December 9, 2021, U.S. Representative Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), warning against a Con-Con, tweeted:

Show me a single state where Constitutionalists comprise a majority of the state legislature.

At this point in history, an Article V Convention of the States would be a disaster.

An Article V constitutional convention is unnecessary to protect individual liberty and limit the size and scope of government. If anything, a constitutional convention would more than likely undermine those protections and increase the size and scope of the federal government rather than impose any meaningful limitations on its jurisdiction, as the resolution purportedly seeks to accomplish. The massive expansion of government and growing infringements on our liberties are not because of “problems” or “flaws” with the Constitution, but rather due to misinterpretation, wrongful application, or lack of enforcement altogether. If applied faithfully and accurately, in accordance with its original meaning, at least 80 percent of the federal government’s programs would likely be found unconstitutional. This fact negates any reason for convening an Article V convention today. The correct solution is constitutional enforcement, not a constitutional convention.

Rather than passing Article V convention applications, which risk a runaway convention threatening our God-given rights and individual liberty, the Legislature should consider Article VI and nullify unconstitutional laws.

Furthermore, state lawmakers should also consider rescinding any and all previously passed Article V convention applications to Congress, regardless of the desired amendment(s). Passing rescission resolutions will help prevent aggregating past Article V convention applications with those from other states to force Congress to call a convention.

Above all, urge your state representative and senator to oppose SJ 2, and all other pro-Article V convention resolutions and to instead consider nullification as a safe and constitutional means to limit government.

The Dangers of Myth-Making

 By Anna Von Reitz

We are all getting double doses of pre-fabricated "Narratives" these days, often long, convoluted stories that amount to either fear-mongering or hopium, neither of which is helpful.

The fear- mongering ("We're all going to die!" --- as if this is news?) only leaves people paralyzed, and the hopium leaves them paralyzed, too, albeit, for different reasons.

So who or what benefits by keeping us paralyzed?

In a word -- those who want to keep us from thinking and acting for ourselves.

When we think and act for ourselves, we become unmanageable, and from their perspective as manipulators, that's bad.

All these Fly-by-Night Narratives are bad enough, but something else is happening as well --- a process of Myth-Making that marginalizes our motivation and ability to take practical action in much the same way.

There is a myth that I didn't write The Jural Handbook.  This myth has no basis to it.  The myth says that some unidentified man actually wrote the book, because "no woman" would have such knowledge.

This appeals to those prejudiced against women, and it turns out that there are quite a few closet woman-haters out there.

The myth then bifurcates into two versions, one says I am Catholic and the other says I'm Jewish, and none of that has any factual basis, either.

One even more fanciful off-shoot says I am a black, Jewish, woman plagiarist who ripped off the unidentified white male author and his non-existent prior effort that has never seen the light of day.

Curiously, those spreading this myth are plagiarists themselves -- men who ripped off Frank O'Collin's work, Ucantia, and used it as the basis for the Reign of the Heavens Society.

They follow the modus operandi I have so long pointed out: they accuse everyone else of doing what they are doing themselves.

They blame the Jews for "killing Jesus" when in fact, according to the Bible, the Romans killed Yeshuah.

They blame Eve for Original Sin, but the Bible shows that she confessed and paid for her transgression, while Adam reacted like a two-year-old and wasn't competent to stand trial.

These banal excuses for men blow themselves up like so many Puffer Fish and loudly proclaim the excellence of white men of the "Adamic Race" --- a concept they created out of thin air --- and hope that we won't notice that white men of this purported Adamic Race are the ones who brought us to this moral and economic collapse.

It's their fault, yet they present themselves as the answer to the problems they created.

Everyone knows that Old White Men did this and are still doing it.  But those who are responsible for this Mess sure try their best to deflect everyone's attention from the facts.  Pope Francis?  Old White Man. King Charles?  Old White Man.   Joe Biden?  Old White Man.  Donald Trump?  Old White Man.  Mark Miley?  Old White Man.

Do you see a pattern here?

Adamic Race, kiss my ass. Without women there wouldn't be any race, Adamic or otherwise.  For the record, men, we give birth to you sops and we wipe your butts and we feed you and care for you all your lives. And that's the truth of it.

Where were the vaunted heroes of the Adamic Race while all this corruption and war-for-profit and money laundering and drug addiction and fraud and unconstitutional hocus-pocus was going on?

I can tell you that they weren't with me slogging away reading history and law books in the basement.  They weren't there when I was writing The Jural Assembly Handbook, either.

These "sons of Adam" are as shiftless, cowardly, and unaccountable as their Father, trying to avoid blame the same way he did, too. Blame the woman instead of owning up to your own responsibility for your own actions and inactions.

Grandma took them to the woodshed and now, they've got a sore butt.  It's their own fault and telling more lies isn't going to help them one iota.

There's also another Myth, one that says I am some sort of prophet or guru, existing in the rarefied air hovering above the Earth, so far above common people that they dare not compare themselves with me.

But that's the whole point. I am a Great-Grandma from a small town who had to do all this.  The message is not that "Anna is so special."  The message is that "if Anna can do it, so can you."

So must you.

Neither myths nor narratives are helpful.  They get in the way of the facts.  Buzz-talk and labels aren't helpful, either.  "Adamic Race" is just Wokeness wearing a different uniform. All it does is create another smokescreen and more divisiveness.

The American State Assemblies provide a practical answer, a peaceful and lawful means to organize and restore lawful government in this country and around the world.  Go to https://tasa.americanstatenationals.org/ and get going.

Discharging the Past

 By Anna Von Reitz

If you have followed along and are taking my good advice, you are spending this time in January reviewing your life --- facing the things that make you sad and things that you regret, things that make you mad and things that make you ashamed-----and letting them go.

Even if these feelings appear not to concern you directly, like feelings about a war you never fought in, or other historic event that you haven't actually experienced in this lifetime, examine it. Examine anything that provokes a feeling of pain, sadness, worry, anxiousness, or fear, anything that makes you angry, anything that makes a shadow fall.

Just pull it up, look at it like a suit of old, dirty clothes, and let it go.  Unclench your fists. Realize that you are hurting yourself by hanging onto it.  It is like a piece of garbage you've been carrying around. You don't need it.  You don't want it.

If it ever served any purpose in your life, that purpose is long gone.

I constantly meet people who don't know me, who, for whatever reasons, walk up to me and tell me things they wouldn't tell their Mother or their spouse.  All the horrible secrets come pouring out.

This phenomenon has always startled me.  I used to wonder -- literally-- why are you telling me this?  Who am I to know?

The same thing happens with my Son.  We wind up with some poor soul sobbing their heart out, suddenly grappling with their demons.

We have various theories about this, but this much is apparent.  People somehow sense that they are safe with us. So they cast their burdens down.  They let it all go.

"I killed my brother and never got caught.  It was an accident....."

"I cheated on my wife (or husband). I feel like I broke something precious and it can't mend...."

"I'm sick. I've got three months to live. I don't want to die!"

"I don't know what's wrong, but I am always sad."

"My own Father raped me as a boy.  I can't think about it.  I want to kill him even now."

People carry around the most horrible secrets that cause them pain and sorrow and anger and fear and everything else, and they just bear the burden and try to cover it up, even from themselves.

This results in living limited, truncated, unhappy lives.

Sometimes it is something that they did, or something someone else did to them, but it yields the same results, either way.

"My Mother hated me.  I grew up in a family of five and I was always the odd man out.  I don't know why. She was always mean to me and nice to everyone else."

"I had this girl I loved in High School.  I left her pregnant and crying...."

"My patrol came under fire in Viet Nam.  I was rear guard, maybe forty yards back.  I heard the guns and I froze...."

Sometimes the wound has become what I call "a festering pet".  The pain has been buried so deep and for so long it's like a fistula of the soul, something that oozes pain like pus and provides a "familiar pain" that people use as a marker to tell them who they are, what their limitations are, and that they are still alive because they feel this pain.

Their pain has become so much a part of their existence that they can't imagine their life without it.

"My little Sister was on her tricycle in the front yard with me. We were playing. I went into the house to get a drink of water. She was out in the street before I knew it...."

"My Mom was in her final illness.  She had dementia.  One day she had the runs and soiled herself.  I found her playing with it. Smearing it all over. And I just lost it.  I slapped her.  And she didn't even know what she'd done....."

"This kid was only fifteen and I killed him.  I enjoyed killing him at the time. I thought he had a gun...."

We all carry around our share of the nasty, painful and shameful things of life, times when we failed others and times when we failed ourselves.

It's important to let those things go and to "confess" them, even if all we can manage is to admit these things to ourselves and to God, go out in the backyard or to a park or stop at the side of a country road, look up and let it all flow. Feel it pour out.  Be glad when it's gone.  Don't miss it.

I used to go to an old-fashioned cemetery high on a windy hill, and stand among the graves of strangers, feeling what their lives had been like, and just letting it all go, spiraling upward and away like a funnel cloud of lost dreams, regrets, and might-have-beens. For myself and for all of them.

Offer up your pain, like you offer up your prayers.  Give it to God and let it go.  Don't tell yourself that your pain or your anger or anything else that you feel is silly or invalid.  Just feel what you feel, allow it to be, and then gently set it free --- free to go where it belongs in that realm of other things we call the past.

It's January, the start of a brand new year full of possibilities. So take out the trash and scrub your soul. Be ready to accept new life and new hope.
