The Decision

In the final days and hours of his
physical life, our beloved Teacher was in a state of turmoil. He was saying
good-bye. He was worried about all the people who depended on him for help and
for healing. So he turned to his disciples and told them, "Feed my sheep."
The image of him as the Good Shepherd
has come down to us in parable and in art, as he is shown carrying a lamb in his
arms, with other sheep looking on--- but he wasn't talking about sheep. He was
talking about people who are as innocent as sheep, as helpless, strong-willed,
and silly as sheep. Yes, he was talking about us. All of us.
His words echo across the centuries.
So simple. So desperate. He entrusted those who were left behind to continue his
Mission and his caretaking. And it really is our mission now, like never
before.
My Mother used to wag her head and
say that, "Love is a decision--- and we make it every day."
You decide to love someone or
something. It's not at all the airy-fairy, moonstruck dither that springs from
infatuation. No, the real deal is altogether different and far more serious,
though the decision of a lifetime may be made in a single instant.
When it comes to loving and caring
for and feeding his sheep, people seem to approach this decision to love from
one of two perspectives. Either they act out of love for him, because they have
come to know Yeshuah in their own lives, or they learn to love his sheep, and
only later come to realize their love for the Shepherd, too.
Either way, it all comes down to that
simple decision to love. It means that you get up early to make breakfast for
others. It means you buy fifty pounds of dog food and lug it over to your
elderly neighbor, because you know his dog is his best friend and he can't
afford to feed his dog this winter. It means you donate to the food bank.
For me, that decision came so early
in life that I don't recall making it. There was no single blinding moment of
resolve. I didn't fall in love. I grew in love.
Every holiday seemed to find a
cavalcade of people, including strangers, seated at our table. Every fall
harvest found my Mother "setting aside" extra food for those less fortunate.
I grew in love this way, learning day
by day to feed his sheep. I was lucky. My parents taught me. They led by
example. So I was prepared to face the vast panoply of needs in this world
without being overwhelmed. I also learned to discern when a particular job
belonged to me, and when it belonged to others.
We all have our own callings as
caretakers.
There are sheep out there with our
names on them.
And just as these people and projects
are drawn to us when they are hurt or in trouble or facing a great challenge, we
need to own up and recognize our own particular sheep when they show up in our
lives.
I take all this so much for granted,
I don't question it anymore.
When one of my special "sheep" show
up, it's like Old Home Week. Usually, I recognize that I have a job to do in
their lives long before they regard me as anything but a kindly old lady. Quite
often, they have been hurt so much that they are unprepared to receive kindness
and help and encouragement. They stare at me in wonder--- who are you? Why would
you help me?
They don't know why they are
receiving that, and more particularly, they don't know why they are receiving it
from me. It can take years of faithful caretaking before they understand the
glorious truth --- that the True God drew us together, and I decided to love
them, because he loved me --- and in both cases, no matter how unlikely that
might be!
This winter, be watching for his
sheep, and especially for those that have your name on their foreheads. Millions
of people are milling around, uncertain, unhappy, afraid, unsure of what to
believe. Millions more are in physical need of some kind. They are in pain from
injuries, emotional losses, and disease. They are hungry. They need shoes. Or a
new car battery.
All those needs are part of why we
are here on Earth, each one of us, individually. The needy among us are
providing us with a precious gift -- the opportunity to serve and to give and to
be part of life beyond ourselves. And when we make The Decision to care and to
be Good Shepherds and to feed his sheep, a very surprising thing happens.
Doors open. All the myriad small
daily miracles become more apparent. Your own blessings pop into view. The
importance of unselfish love --- and the need for it --- becomes apparent. And
life, which seems to paralyzed on so many levels, flows onward again.
In the church I grew up in, a church
that had not yet bowed to the almighty dollar, everyone would be given a candle
the first Sunday of Advent, and everyone young and old, would be trusted to
light their candle in a hand-to-hand ceremony. The Pastor would light his candle
from the altar flame, and it would spread from there until the whole huge room
was glowing with candlelight.
In the same way, when one of us makes
The Decision to feed his sheep, a different kind of candle is lit. It may be
something as small as a smile or a kind word, or stopping a moment to listen ---
really listen to someone. Or it may require an actual sacrifice from you.
One Christmas, our son had saved up
over $300 for a new computer game he wanted. He had worked so hard for it, we
agreed to make up the additional $50 and were all set to go shopping the next
Monday.
That Saturday, a winter storm blew
in, and with it, our Granddaughter and her babies, all in tears. Her marriage
was breaking up. She and the children had been left homeless and penniless. She
didn't even have traveling money to get back home to her Father in
Massachusetts.
Our teenager gave up his warm comfy
bed and his dream of the new computer game.. He decided to love. The four
year-old crawled up onto his lap and settled into his arms with a sigh, missing
her Daddy. It was a tragic time for us all, and yet....
The real miracle of Christmas came
shining through. We all made The Decision to love, above the pain, beyond it,
through it. And our son couldn't have given us any greater gift that Christmas,
than to see him rise to that occasion.
In the days to come, we will all be
facing many challenges as our country comes to terms with the vast criminality
that has all-but overtaken us. Many people will be stunned and many will face
hardships. It will be hard to comprehend the many ways that we have been lied to
and defrauded. The whole situation will heap emotional pain on top of physical
privations.
Some people will believe the Talking
Heads and think that Joe Biden won this past election. They will be angry and
believe that President Trump is doing something improper when he objects to the
vote rigging that went on. More people will let fear of a "live exercise"
pandemic ruin their lives--- and because of all the lies and crimes and the
confusion that results, our social fabric and safety nets will break down.
We will all face The Decision again
and again and again.
I hope you hear him saying, "Feed my
sheep." I hope you make The Decision and keep making it every day. Invite the
miracles of love into your lives and don't turn away from the heartbroken and
the destitute.
Let your light shine even brighter in
the darkness and pass it along, like the Advent candle flame passing
hand-to-hand. Light up each heart. One smile, one bag of beans, one reassuring
word, one pair of winter boots, one bag of dog food, one unselfish action.....at
a time.

As we have seen for years now, the criminals have been allowed to come out and play in broad daylight, because all the expensive and mostly useless government agencies have been misdirected and misinformed right along with local police forces.
And the problem with this, aside from the fact that we are paying for something we aren't getting, and receiving something that is detrimental to us, instead---- is that in such an environment, crime spreads like a disease. Criminality, criminal thought processes, lying, cheating, bullying, exploitation--- all these evils flourish until people take them for granted.
In such an environment, people commit heinous crimes and are so ignorant and inured to crime that they don't even know that they are committing crimes.
Like the County Governments in Oklahoma keeping "Kickback Books" back in the 1980's, only much, much worse.
The last few days I've explained the importance and value of the Nuremberg Code restrictions on forced medical procedures--- Article 6, Sections 1 and 3, are especially clear and adamant.
Some people have questioned--- does the Nuremberg Code apply to us? Yes, it does.
Because every State of the Union is a nation-state, relationships, agreements and contracts between states are of an international character and take place under international law. The same is true of interactions with the Federal Subcontractors. They are all foreign with respect to the States and interactions with them take place under international law.
So the Nuremberg Code, God bless it, does apply. And it does forbid non-consensual medical procedures and therapies in all cases where people are able to receive full disclosure and either grant or refuse to grant their consent.
Canada was an official Ally in the Second World War and Party to the Nuremberg Trials and signatory to the resulting Nuremberg Code, yet today we are told that Justin Trudeau is instituting a forced program of vaccination in Canada.
The question is, will Trudeau's Government be allowed to take this action which is flagrantly in violation of the Nuremberg Code and flagrantly criminal in nature? Or will the members of the United Nations call, "Foul!" and stand up against this gross trespass against basic individual human rights?
Remember, always, that no claim of "emergency" stands against the Public Law, meaning that Trudeau cannot lawfully or legally claim any Ultra Vires right or regulatory authority based on the existence of any purported emergency, including a public health emergency.
If Canadians didn't explicitly give Trudeau authority to wipe their butts, he doesn't have that authority and can't exercise it. He can't wipe their noses, either. And he can't "require" any vaccinations. He also can't threaten to deny or to withhold any common right, like the right to travel or to have access to public facilities, in order to coerce consent to forced vaccinations.
The ball is in the air. Will the world sink into complete, utter, abject criminality at the hands of dictatorial corporate CEOs, or will we all wake up and shove it down their throats?

The Death of Bill and Granna's Gift List

Bill ran our hometown liquor store
for at least 30 years. He was always quiet and alert and helpful, no-nonsense,
but kindly. He kept an eye on the kids in the parking lot, did his bit for
public safety, and carried on his business in a tidy, understated way that
everyone appreciated. And now, he's gone.
Bill died of plain old bronchial
pneumonia. It developed this fall as soon as the fall rains set in and the
humidity spectrum changed to cold/wet outdoors and dry/dusty indoors. For many
people of a certain age, this annual shift in humidity factors is hard to take.
Many of us still haven't learned the
advantages of a simple indoor humidifier backed up with a few drops of essential
oil.
Many elders can't afford an expensive
home-scale air purification system, either. So they suffer. And they die.
Dry, dusty indoor air dries out our
mucous membranes and makes them much less effective in filtering out harmful
bacteria, fungal spores, viruses, and other pathogens.
Then we walk out the door in the
fall, and Mother Nature is having a full scale party for all the decay bacteria
and molds and spores and debris that comes with rain and leaf litter.
Combine the two factors and logic
prevails.
People have a much higher incidence
of respiratory illnesses in fall, winter, and spring --- the so-called "indoor
season" or, more to the point, "flu season" of the year, and this is true
despite all the maladies of summer hay fever and other seasonal allergies that
cause a respiratory ruckus in summer, too.
If you are one of those, who, like
me, have spent your lives sneezing because you are allergic to all dust,
including paper dust, or suffer from chronic sinus infections, you are probably
reading this and nodding, because the liturgy of the dust and humidity cycles is
all too-familiar.
Like most men, I am sure that Bill
didn't think a lot about indoor air quality. I was never in his store long
enough to think much about it, either, yet in retrospect, the large beer and
wine coolers were probably a happy habitat for many kinds of molds, and the
west-facing door must have brought in a lot of dust along with the prevailing
wind.
And this summer Bill began wearing a
mask, like so many people faced with the task of serving the germaphobic public.
That trapped the dust and bacteria from his own mouth and recycled everything
and reduced the amount of oxygen in his system. Imperceptibly, he grew weaker
day by day.
Many elders don't take proper care of
their teeth and don't know that their own mouth is the Number One source of the
bacterial infections they face.
I saw Bill the day before he died. He
hunched over the cash register more than usual, but his voice was as strong and
"can do" as ever, and I didn't really look at him closely. The next day in the
afternoon, he simply keeled over. Too much fluid in the lungs. And he was gone.
Later, we all learned that he had
been suffering from walking pneumonia and had been battling it for over a month.
Pneumonia is the real killer among
non-chronic respiratory illnesses, and it is far more common than we think. It
is exacerbated by restricting the flow of air, poor air quality, airborne
pathogens, and by concentrating and re-breathing bacteria-laden air as many
people are now doing.

So, what can you do to make sure you
don't end up like Bill?
1. Buy yourself a simple ultrasonic
humidifier. These are inexpensive and widely available and you simply choose
them according to how much space you need to humidify. Units will typically
cover anything from 250 square feet to 1000 square feet. Add water and keep it
clean and it can add comfort and years to your life. You can also do what
Grandma did, and boil an open kettle of salt water on the back of the stove,
though this is not nearly as constant as a supply source of water vapor and
costs more energy-wise.
2. Buy a bottle or two of
germ-killing essential oil online or from a health food store. Many essential
oils have germ-killing properties, including all the citrus oils, peppermint,
eucalyptus, lavender, and the bad boy, oregano oil. During the holidays, you
might use balsam fir, cinnamon, or a touch of cloves. Adding a few drops to your
humidifier will boost the germ killing and nose protecting benefits.
3. Don't obstruct your airways and
access to fresh air. Once or twice a day, open a door or window, even in cold
weather, and let fresh air into the house.
4. Pay attention to oral hygiene. I
use a mixture of coconut oil and oil of cloves (just a few drops) that works
miracles as a mouthwash. I also use an electric toothbrush which is hard to get
used to, but well-worth the expense and effort-- and the tiny little gum brushes
are now available to use like toothpicks, and dental floss, of course. Taking
care of your mouth and teeth pays many, many health dividends including reduced
respiratory infections.
5. If your house or budget doesn't
allow for a conventional air purification system, consider "growing your own".
Spider plants, also known as Mother plants, are super-effective natural air
cleaners, as well as providing a high quality source of indoor oxygen. They are
among the hardiest and least fussy houseplants to grow, and they multiply like
crazy, so there are always abundant new plants to replenish your stocks and to
give away.
6. Another health and safety tool
that can improve everyone's health this winter, is an electric blanket or heated
throw. These are safe, inexpensive, and can reduce temperature shock. We all
know what it is like to sleep in a warm bed versus sleeping in a cold bed. It
takes a while for a bed to warm up naturally, and takes body heat that may be
needed -- especially for elders, and especially for anyone battling a
respiratory infection.
Simply turning on an electric blanket
for a few minutes while you are doing your nightly bathroom routine will warm up
your bed and make it an effortless pleasure to slip under the covers.
So, if you have a child or an elder
you love, consider giving them a gift of good health and comfort this winter.
They may look at you kinda funny, but when you explain the benefits and help
them get used to using these simple tools, you can all look forward to a more
comfortable and healthier winter.

need to establish in their lives and which elders need to revisit on a regular
basis.
This winter, let Christmas last all
winter. Wrap everyone up in your love. And remember that a gift doesn't have to
be big, expensive, or flashy to be packed full of meaning and blessings.
I'll miss Bill. Everyone in our small
community is grieving the loss in one way or another. We will miss his steady,
reliable service, his long open hours, the convenience of being able to "run
down to the corner store", his cheerful signage, his droll sense of humor and
willingness to laugh at the absurdities of the world. We will remember how he
lost his only child, a daughter, a few years back. How the whole community
sucked in its breath over the pain that caused him. In a world full of change
and uncertainty, Bill and his little store, Big Lake Liquor, were comforting
constants. Now, he's gone and the door is closed. Hail and farewell, old friend.
We are all a little lesser for his
passing and the loss of yet another small town Mom and Pop private
business.

A Plague of Liars

Some people might not be familiar with the verb "to dissemble", but we all need to become familiar with it, because there is a lot of dissembling going on.
It basically means to deliberately conceal something or obfuscate it, so that one's attention is misdirected or deflected from whatever the Dissembler wishes to obscure. Like the truth. And in this case, the truth about the Nuremberg Code and the protection it provides us from accepting any forced medical procedure or therapy at all.
Together with casting doubts and slander, dissembling is one of the chief tools in the propagandist toolbox.
A few days ago, I wrote an article explaining that forced vaccinations are a violation of the Nuremberg Code. Note the word, "forced". In fact, any forced medical procedure or therapy is against the Nuremberg Code.
All medical procedures and therapies must have fully informed and freely given consent to the extent possible --- which means that people who are conscious and able to decide things for themselves remain in control of their medical destiny.
It's only when you are in desperate straits and unconscious that medical professionals are allowed to step in and make decisions "for you".
This is all cut and dried and set in cement since the 1940's, but now, we have people trying to dissemble it and water it down and reinterpret the Nuremberg Code as applying only to medical experimentation.
Not.
The Code itself explains exactly what it applies to, and even though the cases giving rise to the Code arose from medical experiments in Concentration Camps and involved forced medical experimentation on unwilling subjects, the core of the Nuremberg Code rose to the occasion and outlawed all kinds of forced medical procedures and therapies. Not just experimental procedures. Not just experimental therapies.
Any medical procedure or therapy that you don't want to participate in, you have the full, free, and unprejudiced right to refuse. Period.
Go back and read Article 6, Sections 1 and 3, of the Nuremberg Code for yourselves.
Don't take anyone else's word for it. Not even mine. Be sure. And make good use of the information if anyone comes to your door with a needle in hand.
Another good one to quote in their faces is their own cherished Roe vs. Wade decision, the excuse for allowing abortion on demand. My body. My choice. That applies to every aspect of your body, what you take out and what you put into it, too.
The same dissembling article draws attention to the fact that the Nuremberg Code doesn't make vaccination illegal. Who said it did? They are deliberately creating a False Argument as a means to obfuscate.
The Nuremberg Code makes FORCED vaccination illegal---along with all other forced medical procedures and therapies. The Nuremberg Code doesn't single out vaccinations or any other procedure or therapy --- it outlaws all forced procedures and therapies with the same broad brush.
So if you want to be vaccinated, after being fully informed of all the possible downsides and consequences, after understanding exactly what the vaccine contains, after understanding that you will have extremely limited rights of recourse if you voluntarily take the injection and something goes wrong---- then you are free to take your chances and do as you will. It's your choice.
The Nuremberg Code won't protect you from your own fully disclosed consent.
But it will protect you from being imposed upon by politicians and "private security forces" hired by banks that are colluding in this scheme to defraud America under color of law.
The Nuremberg Code gives you full standing, if they attempt to violate it and force any kind of involuntary or undisclosed vaccination on you by any means---- whether by wrestling you to the ground or by threatening to deprive you of any other right or privilege, including the right to travel and use public facilities.
All indications are that we are entering a very dark chapter in American history. You will need to stay alert and stay informed, and you are not being given straight information from any of the commercial media channels or their acolytes and paid trolls. You need to read things with a critical eye and be able to discern the tricks the propagandists employ.

Now read the actual Nuremberg Code Sections --- Article 6, Sections 1 and 3.
Then stand your solid ground against forced medical procedures of any kind and also against all the dissembling BS artists out there, because they are multiplying like bunnies in spring.
You can take a stand against this Plague of Liars, by joining other like-minded and alert Americans who have reclaimed their birthright political standing and who are now undertaking the responsibility of self-governance--- concerning their health and all other matters--- via their State Assembly.

Let's go back in our minds to 1972
and the Watergate Scandal. President Nixon's Republican Campaign spied on the
Democratic National Committee Headquarters in Washington, DC.
This bungled attempt to obtain intel
on the Democratic Party's election strategy led to two years of newspaper
exposes and snarking that led to Nixon's resignation.
It was a nasty, divisive, and in the
end, damaging experience, for all concerned.
I was in my late teens and remember
it well, so I can tell you with certainty that the issues and the corruption we
are facing now are 100,000 times worse than anything we saw during Watergate.
Following the natural law that we
become whatever we hate and fear, the Democrats have become the monsters and
have so far out-stripped Tricky Dick that comparison seems futile.
A couple of burglars bumbling around
an office in the dead of night just doesn't compare to a multinational
computerized vote rigging scheme involving multiple foreign countries and
traitors at the helm of our intelligence agencies.
It's like comparing Mickey Mouse to
Godzilla.
Yet, we shouldn't be surprised. This
is, after all, the President who suffered four years of unrelenting and
completely unjustified accusations of "Russian collusion" from the same overtly
biased (and foreign) Press Corps that has now --- completely without authority
--- "declared" the election of Joe Biden.
If we were outraged and if our faith
was undermined by Watergate, we should be far more outraged today, and if we had
any faith in what purports to be "American Journalism" the last vestiges of that
should be gone now, too.
Not only did the Press Corps falsely
report, inflate, and perpetuate the bogus Russian collusion story---- and then
fall silent without an apology, either to President Trump or the American
People, they've ginned up the triumph of Joe Biden out of thin air and attempted
to substitute themselves for the Electoral College.
And after weeks of spouting that
there is "no evidence" of election fraud, when faced with absolute proof of
election fraud, these same self-important and dishonest excuses-for-journalists
refuse to face facts and cover the actual news. And you are left asking --- how
could this be?
How could any of it be?
Well, it's really quite simple. The
CIA used techniques and technology that it developed to commandeer foreign
elections on us. We let them act as criminals and let them interfere in the
electoral process of other nations, so they lost track of what is right and
wrong, and simply used their bag of tricks at home.
Criminality breeds. Lack of moral
compass comes home to roost. Whatever you do to others, comes back to you. It's
called karma. And what appears to be bad luck or the Flying Fickle Finger of
Fate is actually the comeback.
We let the Southern Democrats
re-enslave the freed black plantation slaves as "public property" in the wake of
the Civil War, so using the same basic scheme, they and their Republican
Helpers, have endeavored to set up a double-ended impersonation scheme and
enslave everyone else, too.
We let the banks provide their own
oversight, and guess what? After they got done stealing everything they could
steal by creating the Great Depression, they took the same playbook and created
(or are trying to create) the Great Pandemic --- so that once again, they can
come in and buy up everything for pennies on the dollar.
Now that you see how this works, is
it any wonder that the corrupt CIA thought nothing of off-shoring and digitally
commandeering an American Presidential Election?
And as for the journalists and their
stunning lack of performance as journalists, that is easy to explain, too. They
are 100% owned--- lock, stock, and barrel, by six foreign media conglomerates.
Except for the independent efforts of alternative media, there is no American
Press Corps.
There is an Internationalist Press
Corps, instead, using our airwaves, our schools, and our own universities to
promote "globalism" --- that is, Corporate Feudalism, and all the dreary lies
and profit-motives that entails.
To quote Malcolm X, "Only a fool lets
his enemy educate his children." and to paraphrase, only fools let foreigners
own and operate their news sources.
All those media corporations need to
be nationalized and their assets sold off to American companies. All the False
Shepherds and Talking Heads need to be fired, not eligible for rehire.
Control of the schools needs to be
handed back to local communities and all the Public Employee Unions including
the National Education Association need to go away. Bye-bye.
All the professions need to be
"de-politicized". No more American Medical Association. No more Bar
Associations. No more "Special Interests" controlling entire sectors of our
economy.
The CIA needs to be shut down. The
FBI needs new management and probably new ownership, too.
And all the corrupt and compromised
senior officers in the U.S. Military who contributed to this, need to pay the
Piper for what they've done--- and tried to do--- to their own country and
countrymen.
Long-overdue punishment needs to be
meted out, and all the foreign corporations need proof that we are serious about
protecting our national interests.
All it really requires is choosing a
target and taking one of these monster corporations to task. How about
Microsoft? Everybody hates them. Or Bayer-Monsanto? Ditto-ditto. We need to pull
their charters for unlawful activities on our shores, and bust them up into a
million little pieces, confiscate all their assets and distribute the spoils to
loyal (and sane) American companies.
Do that once, and do a good job of
it, and like magic, all the erring corporations and their board members fall in
line. The looming spectre of Corporate Feudalism fades away back to where it
belongs in the realm of Robber Baron fantasies.
And as for the banks and the
"Pandemic"--- that needs to be cut a very short shrift, too.
Don't bother writing to "your"
Congressmen. Start nailing down the local leadership, where you can button-hole
the rats and stare them eye-to-eye. And don't wait. Point out what these lousy
banks are doing ---- again. Let them know that you're not fooled.
Just kick back on your heel and ask,
"Did you know that the total average number of deaths per quarter is the same as
ever? How can that be, in the midst of a terrible pandemic? Did heart disease,
cancer, diabetes, hepatitis, and old age all magically disappear?"
Then demand an end to the "Pandemic"
and new management and new oversight for the banks, from the World Bank on down,
because it is clear what they are doing and what they are aiming at.
They want to take down the dollar and
they want to buy up America for a song.
It is up to me and you to Stop
Believing. Just look at what is in front of your face, and stop.

First Sunday In Advent
The first Sunday in Advent is the first day of the Church Year, and the beginning of the holy season of Advent. The Church commences on this day to contemplate the coming of the Redeemer, and with the
prophets to long for Him; during the entire season of Advent she unites her prayers with their sighs, in order to awaken in her children also the desire for the grace of the Redeemer; above all to move them to true penance for their sins, because these are the greatest obstacles in the path of that gracious Advent; therefore she prays at the Introit of the day's Mass:
| INTROIT To Thee, O Lord, have I lifted up my soul: in Thee, O my God, I put my trust; let me not be ashamed: neither let my enemies laugh at me: for none of them that wait on Thee shall be confounded. What does St. Paul teach us in this epistle?
After fully explaining the duties of a Christian life to the Romans who were converted mainly by St. Peter, he exhorts them to hesitate no longer to fulfill these duties, and he seeks to move their hearts by this time of grace, presented them by the Christian dispensation, and by the shortness of the time of grace.
What is here meant by sleep?
The stupidity and blindness of the soul that, forgetting her God, is sunk in a lukewarm, effeminate, slothful and lustful life, which, when it is gone, leaves nothing more than a dream.
Why does St. Paul say, "salvation is nearer"?
He wishes to impress upon the Romans that they now have far greater hope of salvation than when they first became Christians, and that they should secure it by a pious life, because death, and the moment on which depended their salvation, or eternal reward, was drawing near. "What is our life," says St. Chrysostom, "other than a course, a dangerous course to death, through death to immortality?"
What is the signification of day and night?
The night signifies the time before Christ, a night of darkness, of infidelity and of injustice; the day represents the present time, in which by the gospel Christ enlightens the whole world with the teachings of the true faith.
What are "the works of darkness"?
All sins, and especially those which are committed in the dark, to shun the eye of God and man.
What is the "armor of light"?
That faith, virtue and grace, the spiritual armor, with which we battle against our three enemies, the world, the flesh, and the devil, and in which armor we should walk honestly before all men. A Christian who in baptism has renounced the devil and all his pomps, must not live in vice, but must put on Christ Jesus, that is, must by the imitation of Christ's virtues adorn his soul, as it were, with a beautiful garment. This text (verse 13) moved St. Augustine to fly from all works of uncleanness in which he had been involved, and to lead a pure life which he had before thought difficult.

Why does the Church cause the gospel of the Last Judgment to be read on this day?
To move us to penance, and to induce us to prepare our souls for the coming of Christ, by placing the Last Judgment before our minds. Should not the thought of this terrible judgment, when all good and all evil will be revealed, and accordingly be rewarded or punished in the presence of the whole world‑should not this thought strengthen us in virtue!
What signs will precede the Last Judgment?
The sun will be obscured, the stars will lose their light and disappear in the firmament (Is. 13:10), lightning and flames will surround the earth, and wither up every thing; the powers of heaven will be moved, the elements brought to confusion; the roaring of the sea with the howling of the winds and the beating of the storms will fill man with terror and dread. Such evil and distress will come upon the world, that man will wither away for fear, not knowing whither to turn. Then will appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven, the holy cross, the terror of the sinners who have scorned it, the consolation of the just who have loved it (Mt. 24:30).
Why will all this come to pass?
Because as the people love the creatures of God so inordinately, more than the Creator, and use them only to His dishonor, He will destroy them in this terrible manner, arming all creatures for vengeance against His enemies (Wis. 5:8‑24, and showing by the manner of their destruction the evils which will fall upon all sinners. The darkness of the sun will indicate the darkness of hell; the blood-red moon, the anger and wrath of God; the disappearance and falling of the stars, will represent the fall of sinners into the abyss of hell and their disappearance from earth; and the madness of the elements, will exhibit the rage of the beasts of hell. Sinners will then vainly, and too late, repent that they have attached their hearts to things which will end so horribly, and that only increase their torments.
Why does Christ nevertheless command: "Lift up your heads, for your redemption is at hand"?
These words are spoken to the just who as long as they live on earth are like prisoners and exiles, but who at the Last Judgment will be taken body and soul into their long desired fatherland, the kingdom of heaven: into the freedom of the children of God. These will have reason to raise their heads, now bowed in mourning, and to rejoice.
How will the Last Judgment commence?
By the command of God the angels will sound the trumpets, summoning all men from the four parts of the earth to come to judgment (I Thess. 4:15). Then the bodies of the dead will unite with their souls, and be brought to the valley of Josaphat, and there placed, the just on the right, the wicked on the left (Mt. 25:33). Then the devils as well as the angels will appear; Christ Himself will be seen coming in a cloud, in such power and majesty that the sinners will be filled with terror. They will not dare to look at Him, and will cry to the mountains to fall upon them, and to the hills to cover them (Lk. 23:30).
How will the judgment be held?
The book of conscience, upon which all men are to be judged, and which closed with this life, will be opened. All good and evil thoughts, words, deeds and motives, even the most secret, known only to God, will then be as plainly revealed to the whole world as if they were written on each one's forehead; by these each one will be judged, and be eternally rewarded, or eternally punished.
O God! If we must then give an account of every idle word (Mt. 12:36), how can we stand in the face of so many sinful words and actions!
Why will God hold a universal public Judgment?
Although immediately after death, a special private judgment of each soul takes place, God has ordained a public and universal judgment for the following reasons: First, that it may be clearly shown to all how just has been His private judgment, and also that the body which has been the instrument of sin or of virtue may share in the soul's punishment or reward; secondly, that the justice which they could by no means obtain in this life, may be rendered before the whole world to the oppressed poor, and to persecuted innocence, and that the wicked who have abused the righteous, and yet have been considered honest and good, may be put to shame before all; thirdly, that the graces and means of salvation bestowed upon each, may be made known; fourthly, that the blessed providence of God which often permitted the righteous to suffer evil while the wicked prospered, may be vindicated, and it be shown on that day that His acts are acts of the greatest wisdom; fifthly, that the wicked may learn the goodness of God, not for their comfort or benefit, but for their greater sorrow, that they may see how He rewards even the slightest work performed for His love and honor; finally, that Christ may be exalted before the wicked on earth as before the good in heaven, and that the truth of His words may solemnly be made manifest.
