It's incredibly rare and fantastically refreshing to hear the Truth spoken out loud in public venues. Thrilling unto breathlessness.
We've fallen in love with a career Foreign Office bureaucrat of renown, Jeffrey Sachs, a man that neither Trump nor Benjamin Netanyahu can stand, simply because he tells the Truth. Despite his diplomatic polish, Sachs makes it absolutely clear that at his age and with his experience, he doesn't give a fine flying finger what anyone else thinks about it.
Sachs just hauls back, let's loose, and there it is, the unvarnished Truth about the lack of European Foreign Policy, what this costs the Europeans and what it costs the world; he clearly loves this country, but despises the last fifty years of reckless violence, lies, and substitution of corporate policy for law and common sense.
So do we.
Others can hide under rocks. Others can suck in their breath.
Jeffrey Sachs just lays it down and out, full on, full bore, all the way, like it or not, and straight down the throat. Those of us who have been on this journey with him, love him for it. Love his courage. Love his spirit. Love his reckless devotion to the Truth and to Humanity. Love his deadly calm and the total commitment of his demeanor, because we know he has arrived in the same state of cold determination that informs every act and thought of our own staff.
We are going to give you the link to his (very) recent and fiery address to the European Parliament, a real throw down the gauntlet moment in diplomatic history, but before we do --- we want to observe a few things worth observing.
Jeffrey Sachs is a sharp observer, but he doesn't quite grasp the large-scale version of what he is seeing from his cat-bird seat as a senior foreign service operative. He doesn't see and therefore does not expose why there is no European Foreign Policy and why all these countries and 450 million people -- 130 million more people than The United States --- follow "the US" around like dejected bulls with large rings in their noses.
Comprehending this phenomenon takes a broad and truly extensive grasp of history, law, and religion at a larger scale and Jeffrey Sachs for all his wonderful experience, education, and observational skill, doesn't have that whole picture --- yet.
Jeffrey Sachs is still at the "WTF?" stage of wonder, encouraging the European Parliament members to connect their brain cells and whatever shreds of common sense, self-interest, and self-preservation instincts they may have -- to stand up and save themselves.
Their lack of action and lack of a coherent Foreign Policy is clearly a mystery to him, so he is raising the roof on the issue, with people who should, logically, hear him and take action, but won't.
So Sachs stands there like a good teacher, patient, reasonable, open to discussion --- assuming that the members of the European Parliament don't know and need to know certain facts --- and he runs through the facts, the importance, and the urgent need for a coherent and independent European Foreign Policy with such admirable logic and efficiency one can not cease to applaud.
And all for naught, because this is what Jeffrey Sachs doesn't yet understand.
Pretty much the whole of Western Europe, seventeen countries-worth, plus post-World War II additions (Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Czech Republic, Poland, East Germany, Hungary....) is still under illegal, unlawful, and immoral mercenary occupation by the Allies and NATO.
That's why the Americans get the bill for 96% of Europe's defense expenses --- last time we looked. That's why they aren't getting the bill for the whole Marshall Plan, plus interest.
The other part that Sachs most likely doesn't realize consciously, though he undoubtedly senses it and observes parts of it, is that all the "governments" of all these apparently sovereign countries, are not really national governments at all.
They are commercial corporations in the business of providing "essential government services" -- and they are franchises of the most recent iterations of the USA (Incorporated) and the UNITED STATES (Incorporated) all of which have been recently bankrupted.
So. Asking them to stand up for their own future and security and develop their own European Foreign Policy, is like asking prisoners in a destitute penal colony to write a declaration of independence.
The rest of the story is a bit more arcane, but not that hard to grasp -- the USA is (was) itself a British Crown Corporation franchise and the UNITED STATES was a Roman Municipal Corporation franchise, so the actual parties of interest aren't American at all.
The Americans, until recently, have been just as confused, deluded, and defrauded as everyone else, sold out by politicians, industrial interests, crooked bankers, and dishonorable members of various mercenary armed services. The members of the European Parliament are in on this "accommodation" just like their counterparts in Washington, DC, and London.
The members of the European Parliament know they are stuffed because as long as they operate as elected officers of franchise corporations, they are obligated to obey whatever the parent corporations tell them to do; and, if they don't, their countries face the loss of the asset bases they have built up since WWII, loss of nearly free "defense" services, personal payola, investment opportunities, status as favored nations, lucrative labor and commodity purchase contracts, access to the United States markets, sweetheart trade deals, liberal debt forgiveness and infrastructure investment dollops -- also at the expense of the clueless Americans -- and the list goes on and on and on.
They'd lose all those "carrots", and on top of it, their debts would be called in and their bankruptcy protection would be questioned and the payola would stop, their factories would stand idle, their banks would collapse, and worse beyond all imagining, Donald Trump and a few million American G.I.s could show up again, walk right in, and go on a "rape, pillage, and plunder" rampage that would make the aftermath of World War II look dignified and moderate.
What could Europe do about it? All their defense services are provided, bought, and paid for by The United States.
Europe can't afford to have its own independent Foreign Policy. That's why it doesn't have one and won't have one, even if every member of the European Parliament agrees with Jeffrey Sachs from the bottom of their hearts.
This continuing mercenary occupation of the European Continent and the gross undermining of its various national governments is the nasty root and reason that Europe can't form a viable counterbalance to British "Corporate Imperialism" -- disguised as American Muscle.
The Americans, notably, have been kept dumbed down on the farm and fed stories instead of news for six generations, so the American soldiers, sailors, and airmen don't even know that they are being used as pathetically cheap mercenaries.
This is why we are all guttering down into darkness again.
The Big Secret in the room that needs to be seen and the observation everyone needs to make, is that the Allies never really left. They only appeared to. They substituted a change in the jurisdiction of the "government of occupation" apparatus for an actual return to national government operations.
That part never happened. The elections were just elections for new corporate franchise operators. Not public elections.
So instead of living under the bootheels of the Nazis, everyone has been living under the velvet slippers of the Popes (60 percent interest) and the loafers of the British Crown Corporation (40 percent interest) and even men like Jeffrey Sachs have been none the wiser for it.
Until now.
So gather your tea and crumpets; chew carefully, send love to Jeffrey Sachs, arguably one of the bravest and best-intentioned men left on this planet. If you are Catholic, this would be a good time to say the Rosary and cover yourselves with the blood of Jesus:
