Here is what nobody (almost) in the modern era gets --- the Treaties of Paris are all sea-treaties, so what they can talk about with respect to the Philippines is the sea and "territorial interests". All Territorial jurisdiction is Sea Jurisdiction. Period.
That's why it is so confusing when you have "Treaties" at sea and on land, both. You will note that another famous Treaty with the Philippines, the Treaty of Manila Bay, is a sea treaty, too. And that is what they are depending upon for their national sovereignty claims--- which leaves them reduced to being a British Territory. A Territory may include land holdings, but it has to be sponsored by a sovereign power.
So.... the British Territorial United States can offer them "territorial statehood" standing, but only our land jurisdiction government can set them free to enjoy their own sovereignty, at their own risk, or assert ours to protect them from Chinese sticky fingers.
Our forefathers tried to organize this conundrum by keeping treaties in "series". The Treaties of Paris are all Sea Treaties. The Treaties of Versailles are all Land Treaties.
So, obviously, if they want to get serious and talk about the extent of Filipino land holdings, we won't be talking about Territorial holdings at all and the meat of the issues won't be found in the Treaty of Paris series.
The U.S. Government (not the American Government) fought the Filipinos for fifteen bloody years after the Spanish left and established a durable interest in their land holdings and also established a peace process -- by proxy, but a peace process nonetheless, under the Treaty of Versailles series, established "for" us.
The British Territorial U.S. Government has been nothing but assiduous in spreading around Sea Treaties and talking about Sea Treaties, because they know that they have no actual authority to speak for the American Government on these matters. And so does the Spanish Government know this.
Any Government with a long memory -- the Vatican, the Spanish Government, the Russian Government, the Chinese Government -- they all know. And the only reason they pay attention to Britain is the assumption that Britain is wagging us like the tail on their dog.
That isn't actually true any longer. The Brits and the Vatican are both on the run to a large extent and having a hard time holding on, because they have acted in Gross Breach of Trust and violation of their service contracts --- the Federal Constitutions. The Americans are awake and finally on the path to making some big corrections.
This is also the same story in Hawaii and the reason that the Guadalupe Hidalgo Treaty Trust has never been dispersed.
The Philippines and Hawaii both need military support to maintain any semblance of freedom and autonomy. Extra ditto Taiwan. They are not big enough by themselves to prevent China or any other major power from taking them over entirely. And it's a sad truth that we can't defend them under current international law, without having an ownership interest in them.
It's like insuring a car --- you can't insure it, if you don't have an ownership interest in it. In the same way, you can't scrap over the land rights if you don't own the land.
So, we, the actual American Government, own the land of the Philippines and Hawaii and Taiwan and this allows us to stand off the Chinese claims, but for the last 160 years, the British Territorial U.S. Government has been swaggering around "administering" everything "for" us and has often done things without proper authority and also done things that no American Government would ever do --- atrocious things.
We are now getting to the part where the Americans push the British off their bicycle and back into the sea, where they arguably belong, and take up the management of our own affairs on the land and soil without their "help". This will bring about a whole new era of diplomatic relations and an end to the gross self-interest and commercialism that has always been the hallmark of British Crown rule.
What to do with the Philippines and Hawaii and Taiwan, too? What can we do? What can they do? A Territorial Protectorate throws them right back into the same old British soup. And we can't protect them without an ownership interest in their land and soil --- which automatically vitiates their claim to national sovereignty.
It's not that our government, the American as opposed to "United States" Government, wants to bully anyone or deprive these foreign kingdoms of their sovereignty, but until we all work out a better framework for small nations, we feel a considerable obligation to the people who live in the Philippines and Hawaii and Taiwan. We would like for them to be truly sovereign and independent and to be on a friendly basis with them, or at least, have them consciously know why we are there and why things have been the way they've been.
The British Crown is a nasty bit of work. They are bullies at best. And they have been (mis) representing us all over the world, so as a result, a lot of people have a bad taste in their mouth and blame "the Americans" when they should be blaming the British Crown.
As we explained in another International Public Notice this morning, there is an entire population of British Subjects living here in America. They look like Americans. They talk like Americans. But they are British Subjects. These United States Citizens are not Americans. They are Brits, and they have worked a huge fraud scheme against the actual Americans for many decades. That is finally being addressed and that means big changes on the horizon --- for the better.
So, everyone, please hang on. Have a little faith. The actual Americans aren't bullies. We aren't Colonialists. And we certainly aren't into the government of, for, and by commercial corporations concept, either. You can help to put the world right-side-up again by supporting us and supporting your own national government and by assisting our efforts to wake everyone up and by learning the truth about your own government and history.
