First, understand that God appeared to Jacob in response to Jacob's prayer in Genesis 32:9-12, 9 And Jacob said, “O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, O Lord who said to me, ‘Return to your country and to your kindred, that I may do you good,’ 10 I am not worthy of the least of all the deeds of steadfast love and all the faithfulness that you have shown to your servant, for with only my staff I crossed this Jordan, and now I have become two camps. 11 Please deliver me from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau, for I fear him, that he may come and attack me, the mothers with the children. 12 But you said, ‘I will surely do you good, and make your offspring as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.’”

Later that same night "a man" (this would be Jesus Christ) wrestled with Jacob. Here is that account from Genesis 32:22-31, 22 The same night he arose and took his two wives, his two female servants, and his eleven children,[e] and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. 23 He took them and sent them across the stream, and everything else that he had. 24 And Jacob was left alone. And a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day. 25 When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he touched his hip socket, and Jacob's hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. 26 Then he said, “Let me go, for the day has broken.” But Jacob said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” 27 And he said to him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Jacob.” 28 Then he said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel,[f] for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed.” 29 Then Jacob asked him, “Please tell me your name.” But he said, “Why is it that you ask my name?” And there he blessed him. 30 So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel,[g] saying, “For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been delivered.” 31 The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel, limping because of his hip.

Notice that Jacob named this place "Peniel" because there he "had seen the face of God."

Later, in Genesis 35:9-15 God appears to Jacob again and reaffirms his new name of Israel, "9 God appeared[c] to Jacob again, when he came from Paddan-aram, and blessed him. 10 And God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; no longer shall your name be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name.” So he called his name Israel. 11 And God said to him, “I am God Almighty:[d] be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall come from your own body.[e] 12 The land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and I will give the land to your offspring after you.” 13 Then God went up from him in the place where he had spoken with him. 14 And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he had spoken with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink offering on it and poured oil on it. 15 So Jacob called the name of the place where God had spoken with him Bethel."

This established a second witness that it was God himself who in fact re-named Jacob Israel.

Anna, these Scriptures are very simple to interpret. How could you not see this given the multitude of other things you claim to see?Glennhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00566447948418447772noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8621915200928222891.post-75706614530450178172015-12-14T16:48:50.372-07:002015-12-14T16:48:50.372-07:00Hi, Great stuff, Anna are you familiar with Frank ...Hi, Great stuff, Anna are you familiar with Frank O'Collins of Australia? one-heaven.org and ucadia.blogspot.orgAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13118503902056363014noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8621915200928222891.post-62634312869212033962015-12-14T14:11:01.003-07:002015-12-14T14:11:01.003-07:00Thank you Anna for the clear sighted observation a...Thank you Anna for the clear sighted observation about the inescapable necessity for individual conscience. It is patently clear and true that all human activity is correctly reducible to acting as one, i.e. to act as one man, one woman, one being, one conscience, one individual mind. Is that not the fact of our being separate from a former oneness with God and placed on probation (of conscience) into a fallen state of experience, left alone with our individual conscience not being connected to Gods wisdom unless by seeking and responding to guidance of the Holy Spirit. Social activities of every kind, by their nature, obscures this dynamic. For some reasons, which I suspect are flights of relief (but are therefore irresponsibility from individual conscience) almost everyone is tempted to "join in". Individuals thereby forfeit most of their identity in melding their own oneness with the group.

Americans are coerced to join the obscurely defined group of "voters", which to become a voter requires one to self identify (register) oneself as a "citizen of the United States", and a "resident" of the State. These terms are hidden in meaning. When deciphered these terms are found to be defined as "residents" and "beneficiaries" of the District of Columbia", i.e. "citizens of the United States", which United States are not the free, independent and sovereign states but which mis led and hoodwinked Americans presume they do inhabit. The legal society "sees" a registered voter and a registered vehicle and a registered nurse, doctor, teacher etc. as legally residing in the municipality of the District of Columbia, aka "the United States".

This explains why it is so personally and societally valuable to seek to know one's own self, to find solo experiences of extended duration during which to allow group, social, public, commercial activities to fall away into the distance and to seek to come to terms with ourselves, looking internally to self examine our behaviors, our motives, and generally why we do whatever we do. Out of this solo mind of introspection we may gradually gain greater clarity about how we conduct our life and make our decisions. Over time by applying this process we may gain confidence in our individual capacity to choose well how life is to be lived. Every man woman and child should seek this process frequently and reclaim excessive time spent allowing group activities, such as sports, school, corporate (job), television and even web activities yield to personally and consciously chosen activities arising from our innermost sense of ourselves by comparing our deepest values to how we are actually living. The process begets greater honesty with oneself, more clarity of purpose, more strength to walk a path of upright behavior even against the swirling tides of social pressures and then… our guiding conscience then suggests how to become engaged or dis-engaged responsibly in social activities.

The sociopathic criminal behaviors discussed by this article would cease naturally if all people were engaged in the process of being responsible for their own behaviors by quietly in solitude self examining the purity or impurity of their motives in engaging in social activities.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
